"fire ??? detected"

Twice in the last week, the base station voice has announced something about fire. It doesn't repeat it, although it certainly should for such a critical alert. I have hearing loss and cannot understand what it says in the middle of this: "fire ??? detected." I do not have a separate SimpliSafe fire/smoke detector.

Can anyone tell me what those missing words are? Please?

The first time, I called the fire department. They checked, concluded it was a false alarm (my system isn't monitored). I forget to have them check the crawlspace where there's a flood sensor near the water heater, so now I'm wondering if there's something about the water heater causing that alert.

@Earther I would phone SS support right away on this one, asking a friend or family member to assist if necessary, and get to the bottom of this. SS can assist to troubleshooting and examining where you have smoke sensors located, how do you clean them etc.

Please post your outcome here after you call if you get the time.

Seems to be another weird anomaly. I think I saw one other person post something like this. I could be wrong. It happens.😁

Without smoke detectors and just a leak detector near the water heater, the base station shouldn't be saying anything about fire. As @captain11 suggested, I'd try calling support, ask for a supervisor, the foreign support will be lost on this one.

Turn the voice prompts up to max volume if not there already and try to catch what it says.

I cant hear it either, unless I'm right beside it.

Where can I turn the voice alerts up -- in Settings from the keypad?

@Earther Yes probably in the keypad, but easier in the app if you use that.

If you use the app, it's My System, Base station settings, scroll down to voice prompts, increase to maximum, click save top right.

In keypad, enter your pin and get in, system settings, scroll down to voice prompts, select and change. I think, I rarely use the keypad. So you might need to explore.

I called -- TWICE. Got transferred to a supervisor when first rep couldn't answer my question. Got disconnected when he answered. Called back, explained all to 2nd rep who said she was transferring me to a supervisor. Waited a while, got disconnected again. About 40 minutes wasted.

This thing is USELESS, yet alarming -- literally, with no explanation.

Plus, in addition to being out what, to me, is a significant amount of money, I've ruined the paint and sheetrock where I installed the base station, all for nothing but concern and no help from SimpliSafe whatsoever. I can only hope the flood detector gizmo by the water heater in the crawlspace does its job if there's ever a flood there.

It's all about monthly monitoring fees, nothing more, apparently.

@Earther They really should give customer service some first party attention. I never had any luck calling the Philippines or wherever 3rd party support is.

I always got disconnected. Tried twice about a year ago and never again.

There's more help here or on the SimpliSafe Reddit sub. Just users. Not affiliated, unfortunately.

Since you ripped it off the wall, you could try a base reset. Remove base electrical plug, remove base retention screw, twist bottom off, take a battery out for about several minutes.

Make sure they're NiMH rechargeable batteries while your in there.

Put battery back in, reassemble, plug back in. Check in your app or keypad for base firmware version. Currently 2.17.0.34.
