How Do I Cancel my Monitoring?

Been with SimpliSafe for a while and just never felt secure.  I'm going another way and want to cancel my monitoring.  What is the MOST EFFECTIVE way to get this done in a timely manner?

Hi @docparker99 ,

The easiest way to cancel service is to just give us a call at 1-888-910-1458. Follow the phone prompts to get to the right department, and an agent will just need to verify your Safe Word passcode before canceling your account.

Calling in and speaking to a retention specialist is the most difficult way to cancel a subscription.  The easiest way to cancel would be via a page on your site or via chat. Save the response of a phone call being the only way to securely identify a customer.

@davey_d Thats not the easiest way. That's the best way for you to retain customers. It's also a nightmare to deal with.

@khein72 Yeah, that's the whole point. Make it hard to cancel service and some customers can't find the time. Another day, another corporate scheme.

@docparker99 As per written posts from SS, you must call, authenticate, and then on their recorded line say cancel. There is no written anything that you even have to speak with their "Loyalty Dept". I suggest being polite but firm with the agent you get, confirming you are on a recorded line, confirming  your identify, saying cancel, confirming they heard you, and then saying thanks and hanging up. If you do get charged (a possibility, just dispute it, done. I call this my "Jersey" routine and it has worked just fine with Sirius Radio, a local Chicago-based newspaper, and other aggressive subscribers. Sorry, no guarantees but just saying how I would handle it. For the record, I feel very secure with SS, in my humble opinion the overall best value and effective solution in the market. Good luck.

This is a violation of California consumer laws. Simplisafe should get their act together or risk incurring a fine. If you allow online signups, you MUST allow online cancellations.

@simplisafej2utr we're not able to comment on the legal situation, but please know that our teams are always evaluating our processes with our customers in mind. We also encourage you to read through our Privacy Policy.

@davey_d I think, like all companies, processes are being evaluated with the company in mind.

@tbh4957 Call support. They can authenticate you and then assist you.

@tbh4957 In order to cancel your monitoring plan, you will need to call our Support team and verbally confirm your Safe Word. If you need to retrieve your Safe Word, I recommend taking the steps in this Help Center article to find it.

Called "support team" and I'm currently (of course) waiting on hold forEVER, listening to mind-numbing muzac while waiting to be  transferred to an "account specialist" which I anticipate will probably never even happen.

1-888-910-1458 is... always busy... but you know that!

Of course it is! That's the whole point. Force people to cancel by phone and then understaff the phone lines. Makes your company $$$.

It's a ridiculous process.  You first call customer service and get a guy that sounds drunk, then after confirming your account they transfer you to another person who has to re-verify your account and then you cancel.  You have to read out your email and they can't understand you.  Simplisafe is a joke.

This place is a scam. They make it extremely difficult to cancel the service. I will be doing so through my credit card.

I called today (Friday 10ish) and got through to the account specialist in no time. She asked me why I wanted to cancel and I just told her that I signed up with a new provider already. The whole process is probably no more than 10 minutes. I did have to give my safe word and click a few buttons to get to the customer service, but It wasn't that bad.

I also had no trouble in cancelling my monitoring service.  Called and was transferred immediately to the representative (on the East Coast of US).  This agent went through the different levels of service that are available if I cancelled, and then quickly effected the change.  The entire process took less than 8 minutes.  I can see how they might want you to call in to cancel the service, as it makes it a bit more difficult for someone else to shut off the monitoring system.

Just to provide feedback to other consumers, I had the core monitoring service and called in to cancel. I gave my email address and safe word to the 1st person who then asked why I'm cancelling. After I provided my reason, I was transfer to a 2nd person -- service specialist -- who said I needed to provide my email address and safe word again as she does not have any of my information in front of her on her screen.

The specialist offered a 60% reduction to my monthly service fee (good for 12 months). When I politely declined, she then gave me a couple of alternate plans which I also declined. Then she said if I cancel, I lose all control, even the mobile app on my phone, of this locally installed system. She said I should downgrade to BASIC which is free and still gives some limited control via the mobile app.

The whole call took about 14 minutes. I'm in NY and I called around 12 noon.

I just went through this process and it couldn't have been easier. Just call and they will do it, no hard sell.
