What warning message are you getting on the Keypad and/or app? Sensor batteries use the lithium type for extended battery life in low-drain devices, and they should be lasting about 3-5 years. So it's definitely way too early to see any "Low Battery" messages.
But if you're seeing a "Not Responding" message, that is a warning that the sensor is failing to check in with the Base Station - a communication issue, not necessarily a battery issue. You can follow the Help Center article here for troubleshooting steps.
@davey_d Thanks for your reply. I am getting a "Low Battery" message. The sensor is located in a "high traffic" area - meaning the door is opened and closed more frequently than other entry points. However, I don't believe this should cause the battery to die so quickly. With my previous system, the sensor battery lasted for years in the same spot.
Edit: I replaced the battery and switched locations. I’m getting another low battery warning. (From the same sensor at a different location)
You're right, those batteries should definitely be lasting years. For the Entry Sensors, those signals are such a tiny amount of energy that traffic shouldn't have a huge impact.
My next question is, do you know what version of firmware your Base Station is running? You can check from the Keypad under Menu > System Settings > Diagnostics.
There's a very old version of the firmware with a known bug, where the Base Station might interpret some signals incorrectly and display a "Low Battery" when that is not the case.
(though regardless of current version, we strongly suggest that you do keep your Base updated to the latest version)
Otherwise, the only other thing we should do is replace those batteries for free. Our Support team can help.
we just got our new system within the last week and so far 2 of our entry sensors have needed to have batteries replaced. this happened twice to one of those sensors. Support is sending us 2 new sensors..... why is the hardware already having issues??
I’m sorry to hear this! Sensor batteries should last 3-5 years, so this is certainly not typical. There might have been an issue with the sensors - your replacements should not face the same problem. However, if this battery drain persists, please let me know in this thread.
@amerriman99 for me it’s my door entry sensor. I’ve replaced the battery twice - I only have the system for 3 weeks. Customer service has not been great.
@harriet_c What a joke. My camera is constantly plugged in yet battery charge drops to as low as 14% and takes up to 10 days to recharge. This is unacceptable. If my power goes out I’ll have minimum battery time to operate the camera. SimpliSafe-provided batteries are garbage.
@vegaspball you also got to remember we don't know how long the sensors have been on the shelves Orin storage before they were shipped out and that could play a roll
@lance843 But also remember that components are packaged with a battery strip over the battery, preventing it from powering the device. So there shouldn't be a way for it to drain while awaiting purchase.
Yes. My system arrived Thursday night and I installed it. The app didn't work to turn the light off on the base station. Then on Friday I received the first low battery warning. Customer service walked me through resetting it and had me reinstall the app to get the base station light to turn off. Today (Saturday- day 3) two more low battery alerts (bringing the total number of sensors sending alerts to 3)... Called customer service who basically told me to follow the same process as the day before. I have 19 entry sensors and three low battery alerts within less than 48 hours of owning the system (bought directly from Simplisafe) and having to reinstall the app seems like a red flag. I'm pretty sure I'll be returning this system. There are too many options on the market to deal with this.
The batteries in my keypad die frequently. The moat recent set after 9 days. Customer service told me to use alkaline and they should last 1 year. There must be something wrong with the unit draining the batteries
Do you see a “Low Battery” warning prompting you to change your batteries? If so, your Keypad may be experiencing extreme interference, which means that something is blocking the signal between your Keypad and Base Station. Extreme interference means that the Keypad has to work harder to connect to the Base Station, which could be causing its batteries to drain.
Interference can be caused by physical objects getting in the way of the signal between your Keypad and Base Staton, like brick or stone walls. It could also be caused by other wireless signals in the same airspace; simple devices like remote controlled garage openers or wireless weather stations could cause this. Do you have anything around your Keypad and/or Base Station that could cause either type of interference?
@dunn417 I would try using a different outlet and adapter to charge your Outdoor Camera's battery. If the LED lights still do not indicate that the battery is charging, you may need a new one - our Support team will be able to help with that.
@Jamie0768 You can purchase more Entry Sensors on the e-comm page on our website. If you click on "Expand your SimpliSafe Gen 3 (latest)" on the left side of the screen, you can scroll through our devices.
And the Entry Sensor uses a single CR-2032 Lithium 3V battery. These are available at most hardware stores, and retailers like Amazon, Target, and Walmart.
What device are you experiencing this low battery warning for? The Keypad and SimpliSafe mobile app can tell you what device is experiencing that error. Or, if you arm/disarm your SimpliSafe system, the Base Station will announce which device's battery is low as well.
