Should I replace my Gen 1 Motion Sensors?

I have a Gen 3 system with a large number of gen 1 motion sensors.  I have no pets. I have had no problems with false alarms. From a home security standpoint, has the level of security provided by the Gen 2 motion sensor improved enough over the gen 1 that I should replace my gen 1 motion sensors with gen 2 motion sensors?  It doesn't seem like SimpliSafe has addressed this question.

If so, is SimpliSafe offering any kind of discount program to do that like they did when I upgraded to a Gen 3 system?

Hi @trb16 ,

I agree with @captain11 . The main difference with the Motion Sensor Gen2 is that it has a much larger sensor dome, so it is way more accurate at detecting intruders. That's how we were able to add the Pet Mode feature as well. The main benefit is in preventing false alarms. But otherwise, Gen2 works almost exactly like Gen1.

So if you find that there are rooms or locations that are more prone to motion false alarms, then we would recommend upgrading. But otherwise, your existing Gen1 sensors are still good!

By the way, we do offer component discounts from time to time. I would suggest contacting our Support team for the latest deals. Though don't forget, if you're on the Fast Protect Monitoring Plan, you get a permanent 10% off all component purchases for as long as you're subscribed!

@trb16 I have a SS3 system (and before that a Gen2) and have one of the Gen2 SS3 motion sensors and 9 of the original. I bought the Gen2 to test and, IMO, there is absolutely no reason, de nada, zip to upgrade if you are not having any issues. Also the original motion sensors with the sensitivity switch give you more location options. (Like my rectangular kitchen. long story, but the original sensor is much better in that room).

So, save some cash is my advice.
