Transfer system to new owner

Hi!

I am in the process of selling my house, and left the Simplisafe system there for the new owner.  How do I get them to take it over officially?  I didn't have active monitoring, if that matters.  Thanks!

@rebeccarice you can call SS support and they will walk you through the process.

Simplisafe,   this post has come up dozens of times in the forums, yet:

1. Its still not in the new Hellp Center
2. You can't search previous answers in the forum as there is no search tool
3. You can't use a Google Site Search because it won't work anymore until SS fixes it (week 2, btw)
and 4, yes I want a response on this that its going to be addressed in the new help center.

And, course, If I am wrong on any of these points, I will promptly apologize.

I am pleading with senior managment to finally address this and many other issues posted in the forums.

Thank you.

I have $400 worth of their crap components...big decision lurking....shove it all in a shredder or flush it all down the toilet ?

Looking for advice....

@CACarpenter It is unfortunate you have experienced such a poor performance with Simplisafe and their products. I, and the other dozens of customers that I know, have been very satisfied using Simplisafe systems.

Before you go, if you could provide a quick summary of what SS Support did or did not do when you called for support, it will be appreciated.

Ebay or someother outlet may be of assistance selling your system. Wish you luck, and only advise at this time is not to go with ADT.

HI rebeccarice,

You only need to take care of a couple of things:

  • Your Monitoring Service should be canceled, and if your Base Station is currently connected to the SimpliSafe app, that should be disconnected too.
  • Remove any cameras from the app, by going into the Camera Settings page for each camera, and hitting the Delete button at the bottom.

Once the above is complete, the system will be free to set up on a new account. The new owners can create their own separate account by heading to SimplliSafe.com.

@Captain,

The info is already covered in this article.

@Johnny M I am a man of my word, and do apologize for saying there was not an article in the help center covering this topic. Now on to the required search terms.

I entered "sellig base to new owner", "selling system to new owner", "transfering ownership of system" and did not come up with this article. Do suggest some additonal key words be updated to the index. BTW, what search would have brought this article up for turue reference? Thanks

Hi Captain,

We're a little ahead of you on that too! I made a request from our Support team (who handle Help Center updates) to add a few more keywords to the article. So when you search for "selling" or "transfer", that pops up the same article.

The same team has been hard at work on overhauling the Help Center for the past few months. So little improvements like this will keep coming over time.

From this post, it seems like removing individual devices (sensors, cameras, etc) will just result in reducing the sensors for that home (connected to the base station) leaving you with a useless system. Ideally, you would leave the system intact and hand it over to a lessee. Or you would remove the address altogether. Then the lessee could register everything anew. This article is confusing and intended for another use case.

@kclynhofstetter apologies. The correct link is here on this page.

But in short, the steps are still the same.

  1. Call our Support team to cancel your service. That will free up your Base Station to be used on another account. That is, a new user can set up the system on their own.
  2. Remove all Cameras and Smart Locks from your account. You can leave the sensors as they are, and they'll continue to be bound to your system. But the Cameras and Smart Lock are securely bound to your account. So you'll just need to un-register them. Once you do that, the new owner can just reinstall them again through the SimpliSafe app.

This doesn't work. I've been on the phone with them 3 times already and the new owner continues to get a message that the base station is still assigned to another (my) account.

On the last call they gave me a 'tech support' phone number to call. THAT number gets me an offer for a free medical alert device. WTF???

How do I get that base station disconnected from my account so the new owner can take it?

@RickS in order to transfer your devices to a new owner/system, your monitoring service needs to be canceled first. But if the monitoring plan has already been canceled, there may be a bigger issue that we need to look into.

We see that our Support team sent out a replacement Base Station and Keypad. But if that does not help, please let us know and we'll get you in touch with a specialist.

Nowhere in these directions does it state how to disconnect/unlink a base station from an account. I do not have active monitoring, nor have i ever had active monitoring. I have disconnected all devices from this residences base station, but when the new person tries to add this base station to their new SS account through the mobile app it says its linked to another account.

@jeramifrost your account will need to be canceled in order for the new owner of your Base Station to set it up. If you reach out to our Support team, they can cancel your account for you.

The original account still has another active residence being used that is tied to it with its own base station and sensors. Will that location have to be deleted as well and recreated under a new account afterwards?

@jeramifrost no, the other active system/location on your account will not need to be canceled and then recreated. If you let our Support team know the name of the location/the serial number of the Base Station, they will only cancel service for that one. Then, the new owner can add it to their system.
