Neighbor woken up at 2am. Disabling Smoke Detectors.
That's the 2nd time.
I had a Simplisafe smoke detector malfunction while we were away and in a different time zone.
The cops & fire department woke up our neighbors at 2am to see if they had a key to the house (they did). The authorities when into our house, and determined there was nothing going on.

What I'd like to see is SimpliSafe requiring verification before doing an emergency response. In the case of smoke, a 2nd detector, or a camera image showing smoke.
If the house is really empty, and really on fire, yes call the local authorities. But on a hair trigger based on a single detector: no thanks.

I'm sure its frustrating. I read your posts and many others very similar.
I also researched here and on the Internet and exactly why I didn't buy any.
I haven't ever blown out, nor cleaned a smoke detector or CO detector in 50 years. Wipe them off when swapping batteries. Never had a false alarm. Ever.
Smoke? They alarm. Various brands.
I certainly wouldn't clean them every month and spend unnecessary money on air cannisters.
Or a real alarms, well, besides when she's cooking. 🫣 One had an end of life and started beeping at 3AM one time.
For those users fined they should send the fines to Simplisafes headquarters. Lol (good luck with that)
I use a wifi model now, no cleaning, push notifications, I don't run cameras in the living quarters, too old to travel very far away. Lol 👴 So if I get a notification, I'll have to check or call a neighbor or 911.
Kill the false alarms noise from the app.
Interconnected RF models available.
Monitoring is available (cheap) on my models, I don't want it personally. Calls and tap to cancel before dispatch. Wifi must be up.
I use them in forbidden 🙊 places too, right beside the oil furnace, in the garage. Etc.🤷
And of late what with new integrations, compatible with my home brewed security & home automation system. Double notifications and alarms redundancy. Lol
WiFi and cloud will have to do until I find a good ZigBee or Zwave model. Or I retrofit these with a Zwave device.
My other indoor looking out and outdoor cameras are also listening devices for smoke and CO sounds.
Kidde has some fancy RF connected models, but they have been known to cause RF interference with SS RF devices as seen in posts here. So I'll pass on those as well.
These are just my personal opinions, yours and others mileage may vary.

@brycen I hope this doesn't bring me bad luck, but have six smoke, 3 CO and one combo smoke/CO sensor and no false alarms since 2018, except for our first and last after they were installed earlier in the year. Luckily we were home and my wife insisted I read the owners manual, Now I faithfully clean all with a can of compressed air on a bimonthly basis. As far as the FD, when I mistakenly thought I needed a permit, I was told by the FD that I could provide them a code for my smart lock and they would enter the premises, minus the axe, to inspect the premises.
The code is encrypted and only seen by dispatch when the call is sent out to send the FD on site. Your idea of secondary verification is a good topic to explore, but at this time don't know how it would be structured and operate, while keeping the house from burning to the ground.
