Smoke detector red light flashes 4 times every 10 seconds

After changing the battery in smoke detector, red light flashes 4 times every 10 seconds for a few hours already. Yellow light is steady and no any sound. Is anyone experienced similar issue?

Hi @yjstar,

The solid yellow light means that the Smoke Detector is not completely on its mounting bracket. Try turning the detector a little bit more clock-wise until you feel it click into place. Once it clicks into place, the yellow light should turn off and the Smoke Detector should resume normal operation.

Same issue.  Four red pulses every ten seconds.  This does not correspond to anything on the SSSD1's documentation in the PDF found on the Simplisafe website.  Yes we know the steady yellow light means it is not mounted but you completely ignored the portion of his/her question referencing FOUR RED PULSES every ten seconds.  Same indicator pattern on mine as well.

@tsh332 From Google Gemini (If no help definitely call support):

A SimpliSafe SSSD1 smoke detector flashing red 4 times every 10 seconds is likely in a temporary desensitized state after detecting smoke. This can happen if there was a brief period of smoke (e.g., from cooking or other environmental factors) that triggered the alarm.
Here's what it means and what to do:
  • Desensitized State: The smoke detector sensed smoke and entered a mode where it's temporarily less sensitive to further smoke, to avoid false alarms.
  • Automatic Reset: The detector should automatically reset itself after about 10 minutes, returning to its normal operating state (indicated by a red light flashing every 5-6 minutes).
  • Manual Reset: You can manually reset the detector by pressing the test/silence button for a few seconds.
  • Check for Lingering Smoke: Make sure the area around the smoke detector is clear of any lingering smoke.
  • Ensure Proper Operation: After resetting or waiting for the automatic reset, ensure the detector returns to its normal red flashing light pattern.
Other Potential Issues (Less Likely):
While a red flashing light every 10 seconds specifically on the SSSD1 usually indicates the desensitized state, other red flashing light patterns (or combinations of lights and chirps) could indicate different issues, such as:
  • Low Battery: Yellow flashing light and chirping every minute.
  • Malfunction: Yellow flashing light and chirping every 20-30 seconds.
  • Tamper Switch Error: Steady yellow light and chirping every minute.
Important:
  • If the red light flashing is accompanied by a shrieking sound, it means the detector has detected smoke and you should follow your "in case of fire" instructions.
  • If you're unsure about the meaning of the light pattern or the issue persists after troubleshooting, consult the SimpliSafe Smoke Detector Manual or contact their support team for assistance.
