Garage Door Entry Sensor

In addition to a different sensor for a garage door, there kind of should be a different way of handling it.  Door sensors  allow you to access the keypad right inside the door (in intelligent layouts).  A garage door would seem to require a much longer delay to allow the alarm to be cancelled (parking, shutting off the car, getting out, getting to a keypad).  Of course, a keyfob or cell phone app could get around that requirement, but it would be a bit of a kludge.

SimpliSafe needs to develop a Garage door Monitor that is incorporated into their system.

And NO its NOT a alarm it would warn you that the Garage door is open. I installed the entry

sensor as a alarm.

Basic idea:

1. Door open - it flashes the simpliSafe base light ( until the door is closed )

2. Door closed - Base station light goes off.

It seems that there a lot of customers that want such a device for the past 4 years

why does simpliSafe not  create a sensor ?  A Gravity switch sensor?

Currently, it's -3 F outside, windchill -17 and in my unheated garage,  two Simplisafe Entry Sensors and a motion detector are standing guard protecting the homestead.  Yep, outside the recommended operating temperature range, they are built to perform - nicely I must add - and work perfectly. The entry sensors,  in-home mode operate perfectly, but, alas, I need your help SS to have them work effectively in away mode.

7th+ year I and many others have asked, patiently, for an official garage door sensor. You almost already have a product to sell.  (Unless you don't get it the obvious, you take an existing entry sensor, put it on a similar nylon holder that several already sell on Etsy, update the firmware with a few tweaks and you can release this by Easter, 2024. :-)

For the past 7 years (maybe more) I and many other customers have successfully used ordinary SS3 entry sensors on our garage doors.  Some very creative customers over this time have invented and deployed various methods of getting this done and now you can even buy nice, slick nylon sensor holders on Etsy. (Yeah, definitely beats my door hinges).  For Away mode, as of now, mine are only set for secret alert but for Home mode, we are in for the night and at to instant alert, armed. The result: For our implementation and use, perfect for home mode, and without assistance from SS to come up with a formal product and firmware update, we get by.

SS, time to take action. You have an existing sensor. The holding bracket has been designed for you. Think about the process flow, design it, code it, and make your customers and investors happy!

Okay, SS, the dead horse is out again for a beating, I and many others have used the existing entry sensors for garage door use for multiple years, and they work fine. Please, have your dev team spend 5 minutes at their homes and try it, and then,  get off their duffs and release a garage door sensor already.  Your customers have done most of the work and you just need to update the software for "Away" mode use and get some nice-looking packaging.
