Keypad is dead - new batteries did not help

I woke this morning to find my Keypad dead. I thought that it would be a simple matter of replacing the batteries but new batteries did not help. There is no response when I press any of the buttons. Fortunately I was able to disarm the system with my iPhone app.

And using the app, I checked the system status and much to my surprise the app reports that all is well with no errors. This was surprising to me so I removed the batteries from the keypad and checked once again the system status through the app and it agains reports that there are no errors. So it appears that the base station does not report correctly about the keypad.

Is there a way to reset the keypad or does it need to be replaced?

Thanks...
Chris

One trick that worked for me:
After you've put new batteries in and it isn't turning on, take one of the batteries out for 2 to 3 minutes and then put it back in. Might save you from calling customer support.

That worked.  Thank you for the tip!
I tried this trick and my dead keypad and it came back to life and reconnected to my base station pretty quickly.  Thank you for the tip.

Wow!!!  Thank you so much for that tip!  Just as I was about to call customer service I came across you "trick" which worked perfectly.  So glad I did not have to call to have this issue resolved.   I REALLY love this Simplisafe system for our household.  So very customizable.

@chris.mathrusse call SS and replace the keypad at nc, but I think your larger concern is why the system is not reporting an issue with the keypad. That I would definitely ask for an answer on.

I am on my 4th keypad and second base station.  The fourth keypad that I have had for two weeks just went dead. I was told changing out the base would fix it but it hasn't.  Doesn't seem SS knows the answers either.

I'm having the same trouble, I reboot the keypad by either taking a battery out or putting all new batteries in and it works for a day then goes dead again.  Base station reports everything OK

I have the same problem.  I installed my system today and after a period of non use (minutes), it goes completely dead.  I can remove and replace a battery and it will work again until I let it go dormant again.  I called them and they are sending me a new keypad.  :-(

^ Did you leave at least one battery out for several minutes?

If this continues, call SS to troubleshoot and determine if you may need a new keypad. (also, make sure to use quality batteries, i.e., duracell)

We had 2 of our keypads drop off connections due to low batteries.  Replacing the batteries didn't solve the problem until leaving the keypad without power for 3 minutes.  Probably some time for a capacitor to drain to reset the device.

I've used Duracell batteries for many, many years.  However, I've been getting battery leakage in seldom used devices when the batteries go dead and sit past the expiration time.  We are giving EverReady batteries a try now hoping they don't leak after the expiration date  when used in a seldom used device. Yes, we try to get to all the devices to change the batteries regularly, but with dozens of devices now using batteries some get overlooked.

In my experience from many years back, Eveready leaked much more often than Duracell.  Nowadays, I just go with Kirkland (from Costco) and for things which I know I won't be using long term, Lithium technology batteries.

Thanks, the battery tip worked.

If the keypad is dead, would the alarm still trigger and for long after a door is opened?
I wondered what would happen if I needed to leave home before I could call SS.

Hi @seleneadina,

Yes, even if the keypad dies, all of the other devices on your SimpliSafe System would continue to work. This goes for both the All-New SimpliSafe System as well as the Original SimpliSafe System. The biggest downside to the keypad going dead while the system is Armed would be that you would need to disarm the system in some other manner.

Hi @SimpliSaf Social Team,
Could you please elaborate on the other options of disarming the system that you mention above? It would be a huge help to know how to disarm the system when the keypad goes dead, especially since this seems to be a widespread hardware issue for your customer base.

Kind regards.

Sure!

In addition to being able to disarm your SimpliSafe system using the Keypad, there are three other ways that one can disarm their system. The most common method other than the Keypad is by using a SimpliSafe Keyfob. The next most common method is for those that have the Interactive Monitoring plan. With the Interactive Monitoring plan, you can disarm your system right through either the SimpliSafe app for both iOS and Android or through your account on SimpliSafe.com. The final option to disarming your system is to use the PIN Pad included with the SimpliSafe Smart Lock.
