Chime, announcements: Learning the hard way
My usual configuration of my SS3 follows the name of a great movie many years ago" "Run Silent, Run Deep" as I always kept my base silent and not seen. No lights, no sound. Period.
Now that my two grandkids are coming, and the youngest now not in a crib and proud of her toddler bed, my wife and I needed a way to know if and when they came out of their guest room. Ah, I thought, add an entry sensor from my SS inventory, turn on chimes and we would be all set. Well...yes, if you know exactly how and, more importantly, what not to do.
After a 40 minute support call, we ae up and running as intended. To assist any other users that possibly will learn from my mistakes, here they are:
1. You can't use custom names. This was an unknown to the agent and my failing memory, that is, until a faint voice that I imagined came from Davey, reminding me you can only use the defined, listed names. I changed it to "Bedroom" selected from the SS list, but alas, still didn't work.
2. Don't turn on "secret alerts". They are named that for a reason. Duh. Even though chimes and "use sensor name announcement" was turned on it still didn't work. Turn off secret alerts, and finally, success!
A thanks and tip of the hat to the agent that stuck there with me. Now ready for those potential middle of the night walkers. :-)
To all, a great week.
