Outdoor Camera is Detecting Cars in "People Only" Mode
My outdoor camera faces the road in front of my house. It is set to "people only" mode with medium sensitivity. Even though it is set to "people only," it still detects cars that drive by. If I change the sensitivity to low, then people don't get detected at all (even when they walk right up to my door). If I block out the road on the camera's activity zone, cars in the blocked zone still get detected, but people walking on the sidewalk next to the road don't. My firmware is up to date and I've uninstalled/reinstalled the app on my phone several times. Does anyone else have this issue? How do I fix this?

Hi @iroquoisplzkn ,
It sounds like those settings are not sticking properly. Have you already tried toggling them off, saving the settings, then toggling them back on again? That would send the settings to the camera's memory again.
Another thing to try is to reset the camera's firmware. You can do that by pressing and holding the button in the back for 16 seconds. When you release, the camera will factory reset, and you can reinstall it like a new camera in the SimpliSafe app.

Yes, this is the exact same thing that has been happening to me since I installed my new outdoor camera a couple weeks ago. Glad I am not the only one who was going mad over this! Did you perform the factory reset @iroquoisplzkn ? And if so, does it work properly now with the motion detection settings? I am about to do this once my battery charges back up again, since I have had to recharge it once a week due to the camera constantly turning on when it isn’t suppose to. :( :( :(

Mine will do the same but only if a car is going real slow by but if they are driving normal or faster then I get nothing but I don't care if it does get a car here and there as I have had it on all motion but it would catch the people across the street in there yard lol

So I completely factory reset and removed the camera from my system and reinstalled it. Unfortunately however, it still detects movement from cars in blocked out zones. This means I have to keep it on people only mode, even though it would be nice to know when someone pulls into my driveway in a vehicle (my driveway is directly beside the road).
I have literally sat and watched several times, thinking maybe something else outside of the block out zones was getting picked up, but I can guarantee the camera is definitely ONLY catching cars that go down the road, even though the entire road has been blocked out in the camera settings. I have intentionally positioned the camera so that none of the road is in a driveway zone on my camera. I have even relocated the camera to two other location views of the driveway, and still the same problem. This really needs to be fixed, and definitely isn’t working as advertised.

Update: I adjusted the outdoor camera view to not be able to view oncoming traffic from a distance. It can still see a couple of sections where vehicles pass it’s view, just not over a lengthy span. I blocked out the 2 squares on the grid which can briefly view vehicles passing. SO FAR, so good and I have had no false alerts for about an hour with many cars constantly driving by. I have even been able to take the camera off of people only mode, so now it will hopefully detect any entries, person or vehicle which enters my driveway. I will reply here again if anything should change.

You guys have me all confused now. i just ordered mine and I don't know where to put them after all you said. I need it to see cars and people but not constantly alert if they are not in the yard

Hopefully you found a solution because they gave me the run around and are now just sending me a new doorbell. They keep telling me to angle it down but can't provide me with a solution to do so since the current bracket only makes it level on my siding. I have it set at low, every zone blocked out apart from the very bottom row, and set to people only. Guess what...It picks up cars and not people...

That has to be a faulty camera. My will pick up only people and sometimes animals if not on all motion. All Motion wears your batteries down quick. Worse thing about them is when it's raining, they can't see a thing clearly

Mine picks up hanging baskets and shadows. So we can’t have flowers on our porch, but there’s nothing I can do about the trees. Windy days are especially bad.

They replaced my doorbell camera 3 times. It STILL DOESN'T record anything except trucks and occasionally cars. I have called at least 10 times and they keep telling me that a specialist will call me and it NEVER happens. I'm gonna have to junk this and find a REAL camera doorbell that actually works

I have the same issue as others with it detecting cars in people only mode. I am unable to use zones to block the road as it would block the top half of a person on my sidewalk/front porch. If i could angle the camera down more i could use activity zones to see if they would help. Since this thread has been going on for over a year (i am a new customer) not sure what my viable options are. Concerned with going to the Low sensitivity and not detecting people but that may be what i need to try.

Yes, I have since I installed mine. I walk right out of my garage directly past the camera, and nothing at all recorded. This is why I bought this system. Please advise.
