Outdoor camera data privacy

I'm concerned about data privacy with our SimpliSafe Wireless Outdoor Camera, specifically the kind of issues raised in this report. Is there anything preventing a stranger from resetting and re-pairing our outdoor camera to spy on our home?

Hi @LCR ,

At SimpliSafe, we believe that privacy goes hand-in-hand with security. That's why we made sure to develop our own proprietary technology, and keep all communications in transit and at rest fully encrypted. Nobody is getting into your feed without your permission!

To answer that second piece: If you follow those instructions that you linked from our Help Center, you'll notice that resetting an Outdoor Camera requires physical access to the device itself. You'll have the intruder caught on camera, complete with notification, before they're able to do anything!

@LCR I noted that SS doorbell pro was not part of the report when I read it earlier and is one of the strong points to the overall Simplisafe environment. While its stance on integration makes using its products with IoT applications limitations , that is a two-sided sword and keeps everything more secure.

I am sure of two things: 1. A SS moderators will comment on your post and 2. Whereas this would make an excellent topic for an interactive webinar in the community, senior mgt of SS will read the thread, yawn, and then continue not to have their associates in front of their customers. What a waste for customers and SS alike.

Hi, appreciate your two cents on this issue! I'm aware Simplisafe has a good reputation for data privacy, and that CR has nice things to say about their doorbell camera. Was just hoping for some more specific details in this case.

Thanks
