Camera battery won't last more than a few weeks

Isn't it supposed to last for 3-6 months?? After 3 recharges, I don't think we have made it much past 1 month since we got it. Is it a bad battery and is it warranteed. Your alerts should have the history.

Thanks!

Hi @petertrast ,

If your cameras are more active (i.e. triggering a recording, or if you're livestreaming a lot), that will drain the battery faster. That's why for best performance, we recommend that you set up People Only mode, and use Activity Zones to exclude areas of high traffic where you don't need to keep watch - like if a street is in view.

But it shouldn't be that fast. Is the camera already updated to the latest version of the firmware? You can check from the Camera Settings page.

I had the same issue. I installed solar panels to keep the batteries charged.

@mail4sandeeps You can find step-by-step instructions for installing the Solar Panel in this Help Center article.

I feel like I was lied to when I bought it. Nothing was said about "high traffic" or other factors. This camera is on my front porch and I have a large family and it does not capture street traffic. Needing to take it down for a recharge every few weeks is a hassle since I installed it up high to avoid having it messed with or stolen... ugh. OK, I guess I need to add a solar charger..... not feeling like making a nice review, especially since the front door sensor died only a few weeks in, too.....

I just got my system on-line a couple of weeks ago.  The batteries on two of the three cameras don't last more than a week.  Two are now 0% and the third is at 93% after 5 days.  The camera with 93% is in a higher traffic area, so that is not the issue with the other two.  I think the batteries are defective.  My cameras require using a ladder to get to them, so I am not too happy about having to charge them every week.  Can I get free replacement batteries?

Hi! If after troubleshooting, we determine that the batteries are indeed the issue here, then we can definitely replace those batteries under warranty. Our Support team can help!

I should ask though, what firmware version are your cameras on? You can check in the Camera Settings page. Firmware 1.10 is currently rolling out, and you might see better performance from that.

@davey_d So if I got mine 2 years ago, which I did, the batteries were garbage? See my post above...

Agree- it was never mentioned that you couldn't livestream.  My cameras are in an office and I like to livestream.  I have had to charge the cameras every week.  I would have just installed wired cameras if this information was presented properly.

@zacb7162f Do you have the Smart Alarm Indoor Security Camera? It can run on battery power, and consistent livestreaming can cause its battery to drain faster, but it can also stay plugged in at all times to receive a consistent charge.
