Problem installing Smart Lock series 2

Hi folks, I recently purchased a smart lock series 2 to add to my existing simplisafe system.  It appeared that my lock is compatible based on the description in the installation video/guide.  However, when I removed the thumb turn from the lock, I discovered that there is a cylindrical locking mechanism that protrudes from my door by about 1 inch.  That prevents the mounting plate (and the rest of the lock) from lying directly flat against the door.  There doesn't seem to be a way to mount it properly.  I have attached two pictures, one with the locking mechanism protruding from the door, and the other after I took it out and put it on its side.  Any ideas on how to deal with this without completely replacing the dead bolt lock?  Thanks.

@joecoco The mounting plate and the Smart Lock need to be flush to the door in order to install and work properly. Because the thumbturn connector extends beyond the door, it unfortunately would not be compatible with the Smart Lock.

In this case, we recommend replacing your deadbolt with another single-cylinder deadbolt.

Thanks.  Appreciate your answer, even if it's a bummer.

@joecoco By looking at your photo I believe you are out of luck, as it is the right format it is definitely not the right depth. Not a locksmith by any means, I have never seen a deadbolt with that amount of depth to it.  I would call support (or chat) and upload the picture to confirm. Since its now Monday morning, also expect the admin to respond.

Hope I am wrong on this one.
