PIN for Additional User???

I have given all 4 of our Custom PIN slots to contractors. But I need to give out more access methods to family members. But I do not fully understand how Additional User access works…

Does an additional user have his own identifiable, unique PIN? (In practical terms, what PIN does the Additional User enter when he wants entry/disarm via the PIN pad?) Or do all additional users use the original Master PIN?  Can the additional user see/know/use the original master Pin on the key pad or pin pad, or must he use the app to arm, disarm, unlock? If the additional user uses the app to arm, disarm, unlock, will his identity appear in the timeline, so that the Owner will know who and which additional user has entered?

@dr_dogfish First, only you and those you absolutely trust should have the master pin.  They can change the system (remove/add sensors) all settings etc.  My wife and I are the only people who  know the master pin. As far as the other 4 PIN assignments, the fire dept has one in their dispatch system, which is encrypted, so if they are dispatched and open the front door without an axe, two neighbors who share one pin, our two children who share one PIN and the last one is for contractor/vendor use. Yes it would be nice to have more but this is how we have worked around it.

BTW, the request for more PINS have been out there for years and, I should note, when I called in with a neighbor to assist her modify here account (her husband has Alzheimer's)  we were advised by the agent there is now a new 5th PIN slot, although I have not seen it yet in software. SS, care to comment?

thank you for the tips @captain11 ... BTW, I have gotten conflicting info regarding whether or not the Master PIN is shared with any Additional Users.  One chat support agent told me that it is NOT. But a phone support agent pointed out that, while it might not be overtly shared, an Additional User has access to the Settings portion of the App, and they would be able to view all the PINs on that App page. Plus, I have been told that the only way an Additional User can have a PIN, for use on the PIN pad or key pad, is by using one of the four (maximum) Custom PINs. Seems like the Additional User option should remain rarely, if ever, used. For practical reasons, the benefit to risk ratio is low. As you wrote, the option for more than four Custom PINs would be best, and very helpful, with minimal security risk. The fact that SS has not added that capability reminds me of the Y2K scenario!

@dr_dogfish I always try to follow KISS (sometimes not successfully). I look at it this way: The master pin and use of the app is the following: my wife and I. Period.  Our two adult kids, when they visit which is not frequently, use the keypad with no issues.  Goes the same way with neighbors, whom I have known for almost 30 years, the FD and the one PIN for contractors that I change when needed. Again, KISS and has worked well since 2012 with our original SS2 system.

@captain11 Apologies, it appears that you may have received incorrect information. The number of available PINs for each SimpliSafe® system has not changed. At this time, each system can support 6 PINs total: 1 Master PIN, 4 Custom PINs, and 1 Duress PIN.

Of course, if anything changes and the number of available PINs increases, we will be sure to update the Community!

@dr_dogfish Every SimpliSafe® system can have 6 PINs total: 1 Master PIN, 4 Custom PINs, and 1 Duress PIN.

The Additional User Access feature allows you to add others on your account as "Users" so they can access your SimpliSafe® account with their own login credentials, but that does not give them their own distinct PIN. To arm/disarm the SimpliSafe® system or lock/unlock the Smart Lock, the User can either enter a Master or Custom PIN on the Keypad and Smart Lock's PIN Pad, or they can use the SimpliSafe® mobile app.

If a User uses the mobile app to unlock a Smart Lock or disarm the system, their identify will not be shown in the app's timeline.
