Base Station Chime For Messages

Hi there,

Poking around and can’t seem to find a solution.

how do I stop the base station from chiming for messages? Example problem: At 2:00am a window sensor becomes non-responsive (another issue for another thread). The base station then starts chiming loudly until I get up and acknowledge the message at the keypad. For these messages a push on my phone is sufficient.

thanks for any help

Hi @Churchill7,

It sounds like you're hearing the Base Station's Trouble Signal. The Trouble Signal alerts you to potential problems with your system - like if a sensor isn't responding.

You can lower the volume of the Trouble Signal, or turn it off completely, using your Keypad. Navigate to Menu > System Settings > Trouble Signal and then either set it to Medium, Low, or Off.

Our base station (model SSBS3) started playing a 3-note chime frequently.  I am aware that this is an alert for some sort or problem, but I am totally unable to see any information within our system that tells us whare the problem is!

Other posts have said we should open up the "!" notice on our keypad, but there is nothing like that there to be found.

Other posts have indicated that it could be a low battery level, but I am unable to find any display on the App that will show battery status for installed devices.

I've had to move the base station to a back room where the constant chime is harder to hear.  If there is not some simple way to find out where the problem lies, we are ready to remove the system and look for a different brand.

Can anyone help?

@wflather Call support and ask them. They can read all messages on the back end and easily tell you what is wrong. As far as the base in general, I always recommend it is used with no prompts, no sounds, no lights, no trouble signal, zip, nothing. Turn on push alerts, and for good measure, if you want, SMS and email.  You get all of the notifications you need and can sleep at night. My base (and many others of the 30+ systems I have placed over the years) are configured this way.

After you call, please post your outcome here if you get a chance.

@wflather We are echoing Captain11 here. When the Trouble Signal goes off, the Keypad should show the error on the screen. But if you do not see anything there, contact our Support team and our agents can take a deeper look into your system on their end.

@captain11 and @simplisafe_admin,

Update- chime alert started up again today, brought up the App on my phone and noticed a red envelope icon in the upper right.  Selected it and was notified that the keypad had lost connection with the base station.

Went to the base station and turned it on and it re-connected, and the alarm stopped.   This may have been the issue before, but do wonder why the connection was lost.

Continuing mystery- two days ago, following Captain11's  suggestion, reviewed Base station settings, turned Entry Chime or Name Announcement, Voice Prompts and Station Light all Off.  yet the chime started up today and the light will not turn off.

@wflather If the Keypad was out of range, that could have triggered the Trouble Signal to go off. The Trouble Signal will sound whenever a device loses its connection to the Base Station.

Generally, the Keypad Out of Range error occurs when the Keypad is too far away from the Base Station, or there is some form of interference between the two devices - either through physical sources like a dense wall, or wireless sources like a device that emit a wireless signal. For more details, see the Error: Keypad Out of Range article in the Help Center.

The Entry Chime or Name Announcement setting is different from the Trouble Signal setting. Entry Chime or Name Announcement is the setting that allows the Base Station to chime when the system is in Off Mode and an Entry Sensor is opened. If you would like to turn off the Trouble Signal, this needs to be done in the Keypad by navigating to Menu > System Settings > Trouble Signal.

The same goes for the Base Station Light and Trouble Light settings. To turn off the yellow light accompanied by the Trouble Signal, use your Keypad and go to Menu > System Settings > Trouble Light.

I'm very surprised those more detailed settings for the base station are not accessible from the Simplisafe App, which is where I have been primarily looking for all device settings.
