Voices cannot be heard on video camera, especially outside. Two way conversation does NOT work. Support rep said it cannot be adjusted. It is marketed as being able to converse with person outside

Hi @boomerst3 ,
Yes, at this time, there is no way to modify the volume on the 2-way audio for the Outdoor Camera. It should still be possible to have a conversation through the camera, but it depends a lot on the environment (e.g. a windy environment, or a very large and open space would be tricky).
I have forwarded your concern to our dev team. We're always hard at work on improving our systems.

Are there any updates on the volume problem?
I just installed an outside camera on my front porch. While I was adjusting it, my wife tried talking to me. I was right in front of it (on a ladder) and while she was audible, it was VERY low. She would have done better talking to me through the front door. I stood at the front door (~8 feet) and I kept having to ask her to talk louder to understand her, although she says I was coming through very well.
This is something that certainly needs to be fixed. It should also include filters/limiters to prevent feedback from the person inside talking.

I have the same issues as well. Neither the outdoor camera nor the doorbell allows any sort of a conversation. They can hear me, but no way can I hear them. It's not the "weather", it's not my signal strength or upload speeds (they are all "Good"). They just don't work like they are advertised.

The answers given by Admins are insulting. It has nothing to do with conditions. And, the notion that the “signal” is weak is nothing short of idiotic.

Yea I noticed that as well and never really thought about it until I tried it out and you can hardly hear anything coming from cameras

I installed my outdoor camera for use as predator "notifier" - and for that it has been great. However, the other piece of that security was being able to "scare" the predators by using the speaker.
My animals have been attacked several times and the camera did a great job of showing this!!!! I could not get to them fast enough. A speaker creating some sort of noise could have scarred them off.
Guess you could also apply that to someone trying to break into your house or do damage on your property - at lease you could see them

After much troubleshooting with support they’ll be sending me a new camera. It was a bonk camera out of the box.

I stated 7 months earlier in this thread that my outdoor camera AND the video doorbell will never allow any sort of a "conversation" through the microphone and speaker in them. Now, just yesterday, I tried to have a conversation through my indoor camera with a friend who was sitting less than 2 feet away from the camera. He could barely hear anything I was trying to say, as it was not loud enough to actually understand what I was saying! When he tried to speak to me, I also could barely hear what he was saying. SO it seems that ALL of the Simplisafe cameras are completely useless for any sort of audio communication. One of their selling points! I feel totally deceived by what Simplisafe says their cameras can do, and what they actually do. Simplisafe should be ashamed, and stop their deceptive advertising. I will likely write off my investment and try going with one of their competitors in the near future.

One more thing - I put a temperature sensor in my stable by the water source. When the temperature got to low the alarm went off. Not only did I hear it int the house, base station is there, but it also came out of the outdoor camera. Was not as loud as I think it should have been but it was definitely noticeable. This was a good test because I have a panic switch at the house and I tested it and if my wife needs help I can hear that alarm over 500 feet away from house. Alarm goes off in house and at camera at stable.

Here's what I've experienced on my outdoor cams. At least one other user has tested this and said it didn't work for them.
So don't know if it is a half baked fix.
For me it appears the speaker doesn't open up to hear outside without a kick in the pants electronically, which insinuates firmware or hardware. If hardware, it not easily fixable and just a plain old design flaw.
On Samsung, S23 Ultra. The SS connection checker shows as in pics below so you know the wifi signal strength.
When you open a live view on an outdoor cam what happens for me is outside sounds are very quiet.
In that live view in the SS app at the bottom is a speaker, not the mike button to talk.
I tap that speaker off and back on and the sound increases exponentially and stays like that until I close it then its back to square 1. Every outdoor cam does this (5)
This may not be the case for others, personally I have never used the talk thing except testing it. I could see using the doorbells talk, if they opened to live view consistently, which they don't.
I'd be curious if others with other Android phone types, iOS etc. can replicate it or not.
If you've read this far also know I wear Bluetooth hearing aids and sound is in stereo not the tinny phone speaker. I don't know if I could hear that or not.

If you uninstall your app, SimpliSafe app and reinstall it, the sound will turn on. Mine was on then I did something to the system and it was off so I uninstalled my app reinstalled it, and the sound came back.
