SOLAR PANEL NOT CHARGING -WTF?

one last time to reach out before pulling down my solar panel. I have deployed the solar panel for almost one year now and it fails to keep the battery charged. I have done the following:

1. Cleaned to solar panel of dirt and debris.

2. ensure the solar panel gets 4 to 6 hours of direct sunlight.

3. Checked the fittings to ensure proper connections.

4. Charged the battery to 100% before installing.

5. Removed the outdoor camera from the system , then rebooted and reinstall the camera.

Any recommendations?

Hi @keymasabe ,

There are two possibilities I can think of, assuming that that the Solar Panel is properly connected and already gets plenty of sunlight:

  • The unit itself may be faulty or damaged, so it's not actually functioning properly (or at all).
  • The camera may be draining more power than the Solar Panel can supply.

Have you already been working with our Support team? The next step may be a replacement for one or both of those components.

My outdoor camera operated for close to a year with the solar panel charger.  Under normal circumstances the camera had about 80% charge each morning and was topped up to 100% by noon.  In December 2023, the camera started saying that motion was detected every 3 or 4 seconds all night which nearly drained the battery.  (In addition to this problem, the new model cameras stopped responding, while the older cameras worked fine)

At the end of December 2023 the system was updated through an automated push which seemed to correct that problem.  The camera was functioning and charging properly until a few days ago, around March 30th.  Then these problems started occurring again.  The outdoor camera eventually ran out of power and is off line (so basically not providing any security).  I saw that there was a base station update pushed this morning, Apr 3, but I don't know if it has fixed the problem or not because we have 3 days of rain.  I assume that there isn't enough sun to charge the camera while overcast and I can't climb on a latter in the rain to remove it so that it could be charged manually.  I hope when we get some sun, it will begin charging again, but who knows if the recent update fixed the problem.  Having an outdoor security camera (and new model indoor cameras) are not very useful and downright dangerous if it stops functioning for no apparent reason.  I can only assume that this was caused by a base system update like the one that was sent in December.
