Consumer Reports on Video Cameras for the Great Outdoors: SS results a mixed bag

Consumer Reports has released their review and rankings for outdoor cameras and video doorbells. Most will not be shocked that the SS OD Cam didn't even break into the top 10 but the SS Doorbell Pro earned the 3rd spot in the top 10.

My two OD cameras have only improved in performance since release, a trend that I hope continues with firmware updates.  The Doorbell Pro has been fine since released and has only gotten better.  Please note this is my experience and yours may vary. One's personal experience is #1 to them.

Now the lead in and introduction to the SS Product Manager of Video Cameras {Fill in name} who will host the first of many online webinars held in the community to take your questions, discuss current and future developments etc etc etc.  Now the disclaimer: Of course, everything in this paragraph is a "sure hope so" on my part and is not a statement, opinion, or news on behalf of Simplisafe Inc.

I'll find out soon with my all brick and steel doors.

Working with inside tech again, two doorbells supposedly with enhanced antennas on the way. We'll see.

Steel door open or closed near doorbell does not affect Dbm or upload speed, or very...little.

I'd be curious about CRs testing procedures and techniques. On a wall outside, brick? Or in a lab on a desk.

Overnight outdoor cams updated, check your software version in outdoor cams, well 4 of 5 updated.

Thought at first there was wake time improvement, still testing and giving it time to get comfy. Maybe your power cables will differ.

Playing musical chairs today with mesh access points on and or off. Amd other tests sent already.

Added an extender I had on hand, not tp-link, to the french door cam. 6 feet from cam. Humoring the tech. Lol. Extenders reduce wifi in certain cases. No improvements in wake time yet.

That one hasn't updated either. Yet. Besides, I have mesh. One access point turned off doesn't seem to wreck anything in all 19 cams and iOT devices, but seems better with it.

So aome more tests and I'll probably turn it back on. Then, will the new doorbells just connect easily or not to single SSID router.😬

I'll search up the article.

@dlpsr If you are a CR subscriber, just sign up for daily news letter and the link will come right to you.  They also go into detail how they tested. As usual, it's a pretty extensive article and does the pros and cons of the doorbell. The OD cameras, I believe, aren't even in the article.
