System Arms with Doors Open

To all users I am not sure you are aware but when you activate your system it will arm itself even with doors and windows still open.
All the app tells you when you activate it that it has armed, not that windows ad doors are still open.
I don't know about you but would you want your system to arm itself with windows and doors still open.
I called SimpliSafe and they says that is how it works even though the 4-6 people I talked to at SimpliSafe all agree with me
that they would not want their system to arm itself if doors and windows are still open.

Almost every system works this way.  If you arm from the keypad the base will warn you that a door is open.  The purpose of this is if you want to leave say your bedroom window open and arm the system before bed, the rest of your house is still protected.

It is designed this way, as Jordan613 explains.   Yes, I would want it to arm with a door or window open.  I monitor my house and even with 2 kids running in and out, I monitor my doors and windows.  If something is open then I'll likely know about it.  Arming the system and being notified that there's a door open (from the base) is another way I can keep up with everything.  If you're arming from the app then I assume you aren't home, and if you have doors or windows open then you may have other issues to address.  If I left a window open and went to work, then needed to arm the system remotely with the app, then YES, I would most certainly want my alarm to arm.  I would much rather have it armed that way than not at all.  I'm not sure who you talked to at Simplisafe that agree with you, but this is how the system has operated for years.

I would rather it arm with a window open than try to arm and have it fail.

This is ridiculous. If you wanted to leave a door open, you should have to bypass it. I have left a door open and went to bed. The system you have a setting to let you know its open!!!!!

I agree with everyone here.  The keypad should warn you that something is open and then give you the option to continue.  The app should then tell you which window or door was left open when it was armed.  I'm no longer using the keypad to arm my system.

I just upgraded my system and am pissed.. it used to announce that a door was open so you could check it. Now it just ignores it. Not a good upgrade. I may hope I have everything left from my old system.

@obsqur The Gen 3 system will announce if an Entry Sensor is open when you arm your system. The warning comes from the Base Station, so I would check to confirm that Voice Prompts are turned on. You can check this in the SimpliSafe mobile app by going to My System > Base Station Settings > Voice Prompts.

I’m installing my new system now and no matter what I’ve tried there is no announcement from the base saying a door or window is open when I arm it. It just arms. I did as Emily suggested (more like double checked) and tried it at all settings for voice prompts - even turned voice prompts on and off again. No voice prompts. Is there a visual prompt that something is open other than in the app?

Feature suggestion: We should be able to configure which sensors are allowed to be open when arming the system.

@emily_s great only if you can hear the base from the keypad

Will this ever be fixed? system and app should tell me when a door is open when arming.

I agree with everyone above. I would like a notification on the keypad and app that an entree sensor is open and be prompted to bypass it before being able to arm the system. I had a downstairs door open, armed the system thinking everything was secure, and slept all night without knowing. It was very creepy waking up in the morning. Having the voice prompt on the base station is not enough.

Had I known this, I would not have installed SimpliSafe. I arm it from my bedroom, far from the base station. I could be going to bed or leaving the house and any door or window could be open and unmonitored. Really poor design. I will update my online reviews to reflect this defect.

When you arm it from the control panel it will tell you which entry sensors are open. If you arm it from the app, before you arm, pull down on Home Screen to refresh status and it will tell you how many entry sensors are open

That's just it.  We shouldn't have to 'pull down on the Home Screen'.  When you attempt to arm the system, it should check the status of all the sensors and warn you if any are open.  It only makes sense.

@Okaysq I have 4 control panels, none in the same room as the base and they do not show if or when a sensor is open!

I'm in the process of installing a new system, I recently ditched Xfinity home security and I'm having a little bit of remorse right now.  Can you please add a notification in the app to alert when a entry sensor is open when arming?  The voice prompt is helpful, if you're in the vicinity.

I used to have a cheap Wyze system.  From the app you could see the condition of all sensors and the time they entered that condition. You could also see thee battery level of each.

In the Simplisafe system, when a sensor stops responding you can go into thee test mode  to reset it (when on site using the control panel) but that's useless when your 1200 miles away.  And when you leave the test mode, the base is flashing red, but there is no message telling you why it's flashing or how to clear it.

The system operation was not very well thought out.
