rear door entry sensor

I love my system. Recently when arming the system to leave, I get a prompt telling me warning back door sensor open. The door is closed & locked & the sensors seem to be aligned properly. Any ideas? Thanks

Hi @woodrow51 ,

The Entry Sensor is very simple, so the only way that it could show as "open" is if it has lost contact with its magnet. So checking if the sensor is properly aligned is a good call, but you'd also want to check that the two pieces are not more than 2" away from each other.

And since, as I mentioned, the sensor works by detecting a magnet, placing it on a metal surface (like iron or steel) may impact its function. If you have one of those steel fire doors, or something similar, you might want to put some padding under both pieces - maybe a piece of wood or plastic, or even just an extra layer of adhesive.

@jthompson424 We may need a little more detail - what do you mean by the sensor was disarmed by the system? Is it displaying an Offline error, or another error message?

If your Entry Sensor is Offline, that could indicate that it's battery needs to be replaced. After putting in a new battery, the error should clear. For more details, please see the Entry Sensor Offline article in our Help Center.

But if that is not the issue you are experiencing, please let us know so we can continue to troubleshoot.

I have the same issue with my back door sensor. Works OK for a few days, then shows open all the time for a couple of days then all OK again and so on.

The sensor chimes when the door is opened even if the system is showing that the door is open.

Any ideas? Cheers

@Geffory that might be a different issue from the original post. If your Base Station is chiming when that door is opened, then that means the Base actually is receiving signals from the sensor, and the sensor itself is correctly registering when it's open or closed.

To clarify, the chime only happens when the door is open. But the system should know when it's closed. Where are you seeing the persistent open message? If it's on the SimpliSafe app, it might not have the latest info from the system. In the Devices page, you might want to hit the ⟳ refresh button on the top right to pull the latest info.

I am trying to understand why did my rear door sensor trigger immediately when I had 30 seconds time on it for entry?

Possibilities as I see them:  1) your back door is pretty far from the base station and right on the edge of its range of communication.  2) the battery is getting low and (see #1). 3) You have an entry sensor on the door and on the screen door, and if you open/close one and the other too quickly, one sensor will talk over the other sensor and it won't be heard.

Opening and closing are both singular communication events. If you close the door and that communication isn't heard, it will continue to show as open up to 24(?) hours later, even when the door remains closed.  Open and close the door again to correct the state.

Replace the battery.  Relocate the base station.  Replace the sensor.  Make sure no other entry or motion sensors are talking over it.
