How to enter garage without tripping system

I'd like to add a door sensor to my garage door but worry about tripping the alarm every time I or my wife comes home.  I'm pretty good at using the phone widget to activate/deactivate; she is not, and I can see us both forgetting on occasion, hitting the opener from the car and seeing the police fly up the street.  Does anyone have any suggestions?  We'd like to protect our garage but too many communities are now charging for false alarms (not to mention the irritation on our end).  Thanks!

@Nick79KY Ah, another garage door sensor fan!!! Welcome to the club, and community.  I have a partial solution for you: go to Etsy and order the nylon holders designed to fit SS3 entry sensors. Mount to your garage door and add to your system. (Door hinges work too). For away mode, I have the sensors set to secret alert. In home mode, it is set to alarm, instant alert.  For us it works because when we go to bed, we don't expect anyone opening the garage. For away, its the best we can do for now.  A friend of mine sets his to alarm in both modes, but don't have them on instant trigger so he can get into the house to disarm. Sometimes he said he doesn't make it.

Of course, the ideal solution:: Spoiler Alert Simplisafe!!! Develop and release garage door sensors!!!

Much appreciated, I never heard of secret mode and will have to investigate.  Thanks!

@Nick79KY Actually, Secret Alert.  They do come in handy. BTW, suggest you use the search support tool. It will provide you a lot of great articles and threads. Many of the questions you have are similar to others and most likely were already asked and you can find the answers and/or opinions.
