SimpliSafe missed my car being broken into - twice!

SimpliSafe missed my car being broken into - twice! For what I paid, this shouldn’t be happening. What a disappointment. Any suggestions for other systems would be appreciated.

Twice now, my car has been broken into and nothing caught on Simplisafe. Looking into other security camera systems now, because clearly SimpliSafe can’t be trusted.

Beyond escalations offering free monitoring months perhaps or whatever they do to attempt to retain you.🤷

Which doesn't make their cameras work any better. Lol

Two things, day time and night time.

Daytime detection distances from the cameras mount point is about 30ish +- feet.

Except for cars 100 feet away in daytime with all motion or bushes flopping. Regardless of detections blocking.

Night vision, even less and grainy to boot.

And SS OD cams need very strong Wi-Fi. If you have that and I don't mean to infer you don't, but not 1000 gbits download and everything connects inside. That's speed not strength.

I mean Dbm Wi-Fi signal strength that reaches out to anything Wi-Fi ouside. Like Mesh wifi, even then, its not the do all end all. SS has issues with some Mesh Wi-Fi.

Even then that doesn't improve detection distances at all or much. It may improve actual short length video detections that's in range.

In addition you might only get 15 second video clips if the motion stops moving or is inside the car. That's typical to a certain degree. No motion, no recordings. My cheapies see person inside the car. Are they perfect? Nope.

In addition, the OD cams white ones for SS3, either version, are RF signal wake up, which comes from the base station. First.

If your base is centered in the house, they tell you to move the base closer to the troublesome camera, which may take it further away from other cameras or sensors causing new issues.

I could recommend but it violates their terms of forum use rules. They hate me enough already. 😉

I might respond to a DM. They may or may not be private or allowed. Doubtful private though.

All systems & cameras have their quirks.

But, my cameras that cost $35, 2.5 HD, run circles around these, have SD recordings 24/7 and they reach out to appropriately 40ish +- feet, use "pixal change detection" instead of PIR like these, especially at night. Have better night vision, but I hate night vision and supplied ambient light for full color with solar motion lights.

They can also say hey bub, you are being recorded, I'm half deaf and have trouble hearing it myself. 😂

A telephoto, which I have one, sees and records out to probably 50+- yards for vehicles and about 80 feet_ish for person detection.

After this pain here for two+ years now and since, I buy cameras one at a time and test thoroughly. I'm retired and have the time.

Good luck! In whatever you decide. You're not the first victim as per this forum. If you can find it.
