Old units being shipped - replacement battery brand

I ordered an additional Simplisafe smoke detector a month ago. While we were traveling overseas, we got repeated message that the smoke detector was not working. Got back last night, turned off access to the 1 month old unit, then spent an hour with the Simplisafe AI chat bot. Got nowhere. I had pulled the unit and found that it was manufactured in 2022. Battery was dead. The bot was unable to help but could not get an actual person on the line. After an hour with the bot, I finally got a real person to respond. Another half an hour spent with her with more trips up and down the ladder and repeated error messages and automated phone calls

The net was that I was instructed to go out and buy a replacement battery and to overlook the instructions that came with the new unit that onlya Panasonic commercial 3 V #123 A should be used or else the unit would not work.

When protested and said I wanted a replacement unit, she offered to give me one month of monitoring for free. No defense offered for selling a 2022 component that failed. I ended up spending about 2 hours on the phone over this.

This is when I wish they had a smoke detector listening device like what ring has so if your regular home detectors go off the listening device will hear it then go through the system.

@lance843  I just logged out and you seem to have reappeared. lol

Had to help spill the beans. No official announcement, appears to also be RF, personally I'd expect added fees for use of the device(s). Worthing follows it and has posted about it also if you want to search his recent posts about FCC approvals.

My Wyze cams are all listeners, throughout the house stuck to window mounts, I'd suspect more than one SS listener may be needed to be effective.

All pure speculation on my part.

I'm not personally interested. Just dropped back to self monitoring again from self with recordings. Cameras connections again. It didn't even make it thru the 90 free trial until trouble showed up.

Doesn't matter much, I'm replacing all the Simplsafe cameras with something that does RTSP to home assistant and no RF ever again.

I have 7, including doorbells, the base is right in the middle of the house for the RF. It's not possible to move the base closer without moving away from another camera.🤷

Cheesy wifi or bad & weak RF signals. I have mesh wifi, so that's strong enough, so that leaves one reason. Weak RF. And 8 second live views when I'm lucky. Doorbells are just wifi when they work and aren't bad recordings. Anyhow, signing out again shortly. 🤔😂
