After years of stability, Base Station keeps losing / regaining Wi-Fi connection every few minutes.

etings All!

I've had our base station for several years now.  It's the sleek looking model with the light ring.   Well, a little over a week ago, this thing started messaging me very, very frequently about losing its Wi-Fi connection and then, a minute or two later, regaining it.

At first, I didn't think much of it.  After a while, I rebooted my wi-fi/modem.  I did unplug my base station from the wall, but I didn't go to the trouble of figuring out how to get in there after the battery.
Plugged it back in.

No change for anything I did.   Then, all of a sudden, it stopped... for a good week or so.   Now, it's back again.

I'm starting to wonder if I need a new base station?   Is there anything you'd suggest that I can do for this sort of thing?

Note that the position of the wi-fi modem/router in the house has not changed, nor has the position of the base station.

Thanks!

Hello @dr4296

Thank you for letting us know what troubleshooting steps you have taken, as we would have recommended rebooting your router and Base Station!

The latest 2.17 system firmware update includes a fix to prevent excessive WiFi Connection Lost/Restored error messages. If your Base Station is not running the latest firmware, we recommend updating the system next to see if that resolves this issue.

Thank  you!

This resolved the issue.

I started having the same issue this week, but was already on the updated firmware.  What is the issue if not that?  Already rebooted the base station.  All other wifi devices in home dont have this issue .

Does the base station go bad?

Ok, but from my read of the OP's description, it is whether his base is operating properly or not. Has WiFi connected or not.

If the firmware just hides the nuisance messages, which it does, that is just a band-aid to the real problem and hides the fact that the base isn't connected to WiFi or has disconnected.

What would really reduce nuisance WiFi disconnected messages, is fixing the base stations WiFi, which is the root of the problem with staying connected to WiFi. Like all my other normal devices do, constantly.

I never get an SS message of actual base WiFi loss, since their hidden, and only find out when I try to access the base station in the app.

I do know when I have an actual system wide Wi-Fi drop, my phone speaks it out into my ears via phone automations.

The problem with hiding it vs putting up with the messages is that it reduces what little security it provides that the base is disconnected and needs attention.

When WiFi drops, yes the sensors still probably work, if subscribed, the cellular might still work, but any SS cameras probably do not function as intended for video transmission or live views...you know, actual security...

In addition to what you did I'd recommend blowing the base out, remove base plug, remove screw, twist bottom off, remove a battery for several minutes and reassemble and plug back in.

If your Wi-Fi is actually connected and all other devices as well, then it points as you say, towards the base station.

Whether you call and how you escalate the issue is up to you.

How do I update the firmware? On the app it has firmware UPDATE AVAILABLE. But the base cannot connect to wifi out of the blue. I tried to reset the base. I took out the battery, unplug the power for over 12 hr. It still cannot connect to wifi to allow firmware update. Checking the WIFI in the app, it failed too. Does it become a brick after 2 years?

@luckhairsalon88 In order to install the update, the Base Station does need to be connected to Wi-Fi.

Have you tried resetting your router? You can do this by unplugging the device for at least 30 seconds and then plug it back in. After you plug the router back in, wait for it to boot back up (this generally takes about 2 minutes) and then try connecting the Base Station to your network again.

It can also help to temporarily move the Base Station about 5-10 feet away from the router and then try establishing its Wi-Fi connection from there.

Thanks, I got help and did reset to the factory default, and be able to setup the WIFI. The system is working as expected
