AI: Surprising Observations
I like to think of myself as being technology savvy, sometimes even at the bleeding edge. Yeah, an old guy, often I put my home network and setup against the best. Then buffering, slow page loads and I realized my original Google WIFI mesh is going on 10 years old!! I had been patiently waiting for Google to release its next gen mesh system (Breeze) with higher speeds and better/new features like Matter. Enter Google's Gemini. It told me it was time to move on and recommended the Amazon Eero Pro 7. Huh? We discussed at length and I was convinced...but not at $699 when it was on sale a week ago for $579.
Like clockwork, I got an email this morning from Amazon "still considering this product?" For fun, I asked Alexa. It's response? "Don't fall for their marketing, Prime Days are coming June 23rd and the price will hit or be below that $579 level! Wow, AI's that work for me, the customer, and not their corporate masters.
Which led me to the SimpliSafe AI sales and support bots. I am happy to report they were informative and helpful, as I played the role of potential customer looking for advice/info and current customer. seeking to solve a technical issue,
It will be interesting to see how things develop in the near and far future.

Yesterday afternoon I was having a nice chat with Gemini on some details of replacing my going on 10 year old mesh system when my Chrome browser got an update and.. bang, Gemini lost all access to my Google Workspace. No email access, no photo access, no nothing. We did some troubleshooting for about 10 minutes and I gave up. Then I saw an article in Android Police this morning that the powers in Mountainview CA imposed limits on free Gemini accounts. When I asked Gemini why it didn't tell me it asked what I was talking about and had to provide the link to the article. A very lengthy apology from Gemini and after a very terse feedback form to Google, life moves on.
To SimpliSafe Sr. Mgt: Here is an excellent example of how NOT to do business. As I told Google, customers have very, very long memories. I personally have not done business with the likes of Comcast or ADT for many years, and will not even if they gave me their products and services for free. And, oh, interesting article this morning that Comcast has lost almost 12 million customers over the past 10 years, about half. :-)
