Secret Alert Triggers Camera, but black "No Video" screen

Hi there.

I've noticed that when a secret alert is triggered, all my cameras begin recording as expected. However, my outdoor cameras always show the black "no video" screen. This behavior is only exhibited with secret alerts and has not been what I've experienced with the same cameras when detecting motion (they are working just fine in that regard). Both cameras are running firmware 1.18.23.5603

  • I've done a connection test, indicating a good connection and upload speed.
  • I've added all of my SimpliSafe cameras to a dedicated TP-Link wifi extender that is solely used for my SimpliSafe cameras (strong connection/upload speed).
  • I've tried removing them from that wifi and using them directly connected to my main router (Also indicating strong connection/upload speed).
  • I've tried resetting the cameras, then adding them back to the wifi/SimpliSafe app, and hard rebooting them by removing their batteries.

@faithallways This was an older bug that impacted the Outdoor Camera only, which has since been resolved with a past firmware update. What camera are you experiencing this issue with? Is it all of your cameras, or only one?

And does the No Video error only appear whenever a Secret Alert is triggered, or do you see it when the camera detects motion as well?

I’m experiencing this with my outdoor cameras, as well. Not during a secret trigger. Just trying to live view my camera, the screen is black while displaying “live”. I’ve confirmed the camera is connected to our 2.4ghz band, and still getting the same experience. Incredibly frustrating and concerning.

I get the same with software version 1.42.1.15052.  It has been happening for a week.

@matthewtvincent and @cornholio Are you only experiencing this with your Outdoor Cameras? Or do other SimpliSafe cameras also exhibit this behavior? And when you see this black screen while attempting to view a livestream, do you hear any audio?

 

We recommend resetting your cameras using the steps in the How to Reset the Wireless Outdoor Security Camera guide. It may also help to remove the SimpliSafe mobile app from your devices and redownload it. But if that does not help, please let us know.

@Simplisafe _admin, this only happens with the outdoor cameras.   No audio.   Cameras have been reset.  I believe this has to do with WiFi not being able to connect, as the issue temporarily goes away, and then occurs again.

My outdoor cameras have started doing the same thing. I have audio but no video, only black screen. We pay for recording only and seems like thus is a software glitch. Also having trouble getting cameras to charge with provided power cords.
