What To Do After A Real Or False Alarm Event

Please Note: If you are unsure if an alarm event is real or false, you should always treat it as real by evacuating the area and contacting the necessary authorities. Smoke alarms should ALWAYS be treated as real alarms.

We hope you never have to experience a real emergency event, but if you do, your SimpliSafe® system is here to help. Your system will respond to an alarm event as if it were a real event, even if it’s a false alarm.

What to do After a Real Alarm

After an emergency event and once you determine the area is safe, there are some steps you can take to secure your home and family further:

  1. Contact the authorities and file a police report of the incident, if they have not already been out to your home or business*.

  2. Take inventory of anything stolen or broken by noting down all relevant details and taking photos if possible.

  3. Contact your insurance company to inform them of the event and of any stolen or damaged belongings.

  4. Check your SimpliSafe® cameras for any helpful footage that may have been recorded during the event.**

  5. Update and confirm system and device settings, such as your Panic Button and Duress PIN.

  6. Order additional sensors and equipment to further secure your home.

  7. Upgrade your monitoring service for access to Professional Monitoring, video recording, and more.

What to do for False Alarms

Please Note: If you are unsure if an alarm event is real or false, you should always treat it as real by evacuating the area and contacting the necessary authorities. Smoke alarms should ALWAYS be treated as real alarms.

If you are able to determine that there was a false alarm, you can follow these steps to cancel the alarm and prevent future false alarms.

Canceling the Alarm

To cancel an alarm, simply disarm your system by entering your Primary PIN on your Keypad or disarming with the mobile app or Key Fob.

If an Entry-, Motion-, or Glassbreak-triggered alarm is disarmed within 30–60 seconds of the initial alarm signal (unless you have changed this time span in your settings), the Monitoring Centre considers this a false alarm, and no further action is needed—you will not receive a phone call and police will not be sent.

If your system is not disarmed within those first 30–60 seconds, subscribers to our 24/7 Professional Monitoring will receive phone calls to their Primary and Secondary contacts (depending on the type of alarm and your settings)—be sure to have our Monitoring Services number saved to your phone’s contacts so you know it’s us calling: The numbers in which Securitas call you off are 01908 658 100 and 01908 580 850. You can also call Securitas on 01908 580 869. Please remember, you will need to provide them with your Safe Word in order to cancel the request for dispatch of emergency services. You can find your Safe Word in the mobile app under your Location Settings on the My System tab.

Preventing False Alarms

To prevent additional false alarms from happening in the future, you should first determine which sensor triggered the false alarm. In the SimpliSafe® mobile app, you can access the Timeline from the bottom navigation bar. Then in the alarm event, you’ll see the name of the sensor that triggered the alarm.

Once you know which sensor triggered the alarm, you should determine what caused the false alarm. If you have camera recordings,* you can check the footage from the alarm for any clues, like if a pet set off a Motion Sensor or something was accidentally spilled on your Water Sensor.

You can also check the status of each of your sensors, like if an Entry Sensor is open, in the mobile app. You can find this by choosing My System from the bottom navigation bar, then select Device Settings.

Finally, our Help Centre has several articles that can help guide you through the process of preventing false alarms with your system.

You can also enter Test Mode from your Keypad Menu to test each device in your system and make sure they are connected and working properly. If you are unable to determine the cause of the false alarm, please contact our support team for additional assistance.

What to do if your Base Station is pulsing red?

When your system encounters an alarm event, the Base Station will pulse red for 1-2 minutes, then turn solid red to alert you of the recent alarm. You can check your Keypad or the SimpliSafe® App for more details.

To clear the red light from your Base Station, first, set your system to OFF using the Keypad or the SimpliSafe® App. Then, on the Keypad you can use the right arrow button to click towards the warning symbol and then select clear to clear the warning message. This should clear the error displayed on the Keypad and reset the light for your Base Station.
