What sort of range do the Extra 105dB Sirens have?

What sort of range do the Extra 105dB Sirens have? From experience with our previous generation system, I knew that the Extra 105dB Sirens weren't loud enough to hear from outside our home. So, when we purchased an upgrade after five years, I decided to buy two of these, one for inside our home, and one for our back porch. If our house is broken into, I want the whole neighborhood to know about it. Almost immediately upon installation last month, the siren I put outside started having troubles. When I arm the system, I get a message saying that this siren is not responding. It will do this for 2-3 days, then it will stop, and I assume it is responding again. Then it will be OK for a day or two, only to inevitably stop responding again. This unit is approximately 30' away from the base. Our walls are brick, but there is a wall of windows almost directly between the base unit and the siren, so it doesn't seem like it would be an interference issue.

I plan to swap my two units to see if I can narrow the problem down to the location or the siren unit. Is this normal?

Hi @followb,

The Extra Siren's range should be similar to our other devices. You mention that your house has brick walls. Thicker materials like brick/stone walls can create physical interference between SimpliSafe devices and the Base Station, so that could be the culprit here.

I know you mentioned swapping the location of your two Extra Sirens, which is a great troubleshooting step. If the siren that was originally outside continues to stop responding, that would indicate an issue with the device itself. In that case, our Support team can assist you with additional troubleshooting and send out a replacement.

But if that siren stays online and the one that was brought outside stops responding, that would indicate a problem with the location itself. If the location is the problem, we may want to try moving the Base Station a little closer to the siren outside, or adjusting both devices' placement so there is less of the brick wall between them.

I could come more near believing the makeup of my walls had something to do with the issue if the siren hadn't worked initially and for about the first several days or week, and if it didn't keep coming back every so often after it drops out. Neither the siren nor my base unit have moved and the makeup of my walls hasn't changed. so it would seem very strange to me that it comes in and out like it does if my walls are the issue.

Still, I am going to swap them soon. Right now is one of the times where it appears to be working as I haven't heard the error message since the day before yesterday. I'm certain that it will start up again soon, and I'll swap them when it does and observe their behavior.
