Waste of time and money.

I ordered an outdoor camera for my system and after a lot of trouble getting it setup because of issues updating my base station I noticed I cant Live Stream the camera for more than a minute before the connection drops. I'm thinking these must be something wrong so I contact support and after being asked to troubleshoot the camera and spending a lot of time doing that I am eventually told that this is expected behavior from the camera. They only record and stream for a minute after you start Live Streaming or they detect motion and then they will disconnect for a minute and then start recording again if they still detect motion. So thanks for wasting my time with the troubleshooting SimpliSafe and a heads up to anyone using these cameras, you're probably not going to catch the whole crime on camera if something ever happens.

@rpbussha While our cameras are not intended for 24/7, surveillance-like livestreaming, a livestream should be able to last longer than a minute before timing out. Similarly, if you initiate a recording for your camera, that should last a minute; but when a camera detects motion it should not stop recording until the motion stops.

If both your recordings and livestreams are getting cut off, that could be due to an underlying connectivity issue between your camera and Wi-Fi network. In that case, we recommend checking out the Incomplete Recordings for Cameras article in the Help Center for troubleshooting steps to improve the camera's connection.

My WiFi exceeds the rec. and I have had the same problem for the past 3 years.  There is ALWAYS a delay in recording.  I can walk across the camera field twice before it picks it up and it cuts off when I'm still moving.  Not dependable.  Have done troubleshooting ad nauseam.  Have read articles until blindness nearly sets in.  Cannot be improved with present cameras IMO.

@vperroux How far away is the camera from the Base Station? While the camera relies on Wi-Fi to record, it also relies on its connection to the Base Station to wake up. We recommend adjusting the location of the Base Station to be a little closer to this camera.

What a lot of people may not know is you outdoor camera has to connect to your wifi router AND your base station so if it is getting good wifi but it is far from the base station then you are going to have issues, that's why is good to have base and router somewhat closer together but I also wish we had the option to hook up to ethernet from router to base for better connection.

I have had the same issues and more since we decided to purchase and install a SimpliSafe system last year. I have 5 exterior cameras plus the doorbell camera. Our WiFi is 1200 Mbps, which is the fastest available in our area. Everything WiFi related works fantastic, except our SimpliSafe system. The camera batteries have to be changes every 2-3 weeks, which is absurd. I have placed our base station in the center of our 2300 square foot home, which is not so large that the connectivity should be an issue. Many times that people have come to our home and we get no camera alerts whatsoever. Deliveries and the doorbell camera even fails. Our system is updated on firmware, and I have to remove my cameras from their mounts outside to bring them inside to reconnect to the system again. The usability of the video features is gone within a day or two. After having a Vivint system in Ohio, I can say that this SimpliSafe system is not good enough to protect my family. We are already looking for a suitable replacement system that actually works.

By the way, I forgot the add that we also tried adding WiFi extenders and this also does not work any better than without them. We are very much disappointed with this system. I read so many posts about other customers getting updated cameras sent to them at no cost, updated equipment at no cost, and yet I cannot even get a response from someone when I tell them my concerns and complaints. Not a very good company in my opinion. Even as a family practice medical provider near my home in Florida, I have deterred multiple patients away from the SimpliSafe system and will continue to do so. If it won’t protect my family, I am sure it will not protect theirs either.

@Billm1229 I posted a reply in the other thread, so I will spare everyone from reading redundant postings, but yes, I am sure SS3 is more than capable of protecting other families and properties, like mine, since 2012 and over 2 system generations. I do realize the only family and property you care about, rightfully so, is yours so do understand where you are coming from, however, I hope you can appreciate mine too.

Not me, I'm all in. Warning Will Robinson, danger, danger. πŸ˜‚  πŸ€–

The just the other day post among several I've seen here, where the guys vehicle was stolen says different when they have these long known connection issues.

No mesh. Perhaps long and rectangular construction like my home, all brick everywhere vs vertical and condensed.

No USB powered to help the batteries as much as they can be helped. Mines solar only.

Two doorbell's show a little improvement but at times, will not open live view without several re-tries. By them the perps out if view.

Not every one has had years to perfect it and expect it to just work. Why wouldn't they? I'm a 2 year+ veteran. A green horn in comparison. Lol

Which it work doesn't of course with inferior wifi strength and various reasons outlined below.

Not speed, wifi strength as in Dbm way out.

Speed is "mostly" irrelevant and just because all computers, phones and PS4 or whatever connect well inside, outside is a different animal. Upload speed is important.

Batteries only SS OD cams? i can even imagine how bad they are compared to my solar, waste of time and money and more gray hairs, what's left.

In addtion and may have been mentioned, RF signal from weak RF base station must wake up those OD cams. Very bad design.

Long distance and many walls make it even weaker. A centrally located base station even mounted up high will struggle. Move it they say, closer to cameras. LMBO.

You can't, or you move it further away from another camera or sensor.

Some very large homes, sensors struggle to stay connected. Mines does not, 2000 sq ft rancher. Sensors do mostly work.

Mistakes new owners like I was two years plus ago, make;

Trust SS advertising and online click to get paid review websites! Nope.

Not knowing about that RF weakness. Upfront or the ramifications. Nope.

Battery cams only are notoriously slow regardless of brand  RF makes it even worse. Accurate.

Solar a little better, but hardly a quality cigar. Maybe a cheap cigarello lol. Don't go there, just cost you more.

Occasional but consistent base wifi drops.

Same for OD cams, disconnect when they feel like not working.

Because they're battery cams, recordings are clipped and only then if object keeps moving, probably typical 15 secondish clips, excluded, lots of constant motion. Stand still they stop. Doesn't matter if they're solar, or USB, same throttles.

Manual recording, throttled to about 1 minute and 5 seconds.

Even mine always on 720p stink.

I have optimum Mesh wifi and two access points, perfect no.

Daytime detection distance approximately 30 feet, night vision which is terrible even less distance.

So you mount a camera on the second story? It will see about 10 actual feet, maybe in daytime and may miss everything at night.

There may be a few or even several that SS works for and I mean with 7 OD cameras not just sensors only.

But I don't see their post here, on Reddit, on other honest review sites, mostly complaining everywhere, bad at BBB, but their disgruntled like me.

Those approving may also only have sensors.

Yes, I'm still angry. Always will be.

And I still don't know if your still recording me even without a recording plan.

I still have the audio and video proof, dates and time, statute of limitations is two years. You need to fix that. ASAP. It's illegal in many states.

How's that for a rant? πŸ˜‚

My 14 Wyze cams always work, rare to disconnect and usually due to ISP, Xfinity, πŸ™„ No batteries, just USB, Mesh Wi-Fi.

Not a plug, do your due diligence regardless of brand.
