Temperature Sensor update rate

How often is the temperature from a temperature sensor updated. It seems to be only a few times an hour.

Hi @lexluke,

The Temperature Sensor reports a room's temperature once per hour. You can also get an immediate reading by pressing the test button on the top of the sensor.

It would be nice for some of us to have real time temperature monitoring as we have pets and alot can happen in an hour if you a/c goes down in Florida.

I just installed a SS system in an RV with a temperature sensor that I want to use to monitor the environment for our dogs when we are away for a few hours. But it appears like the sensor is only designed to update every hour? What use is that for any temperature monitoring scenario? I have done some empirical tests from this afternoon to this evening. The temps were around 67 all afternoon. It is now 10:40 PM and the temperature is in the upper 50s, but the app still shows the temp at 67. I thought refreshing the page would update it, but it did not. What am I missing?

@jleti The Temperature Sensor updates the reading in the SimpliSafe app once an hour. If you want to get a real time update, you need to press the Test Button on the top of the device.

Thanks for the information. It does seem like a design flaw. If you are monitoring temperature, you are usually AWAY from the sensor. You really should have a trigger to update from the APP. If the air conditioning fails, in our case in a motorhome, but even in a small-medium sized apartment, the temperature could spike to dangerous levels in less than an hour.

The current temperature sensor is powered by a single CR-2032 battery which is nowhere near powerful enough to provide real time or even near real time updates on temperature changes for any usable length of time.

You can (and should) head over to the suggestion section of these forums and request they make changes in the next version. That doesn't guarantee anything at all but it at least gets it on a list somewhere.... (Unless they deny it immediately and say they're not going to work on it.)
