Simpli safe smartlock not compatible with single cylinder Kwikset deadbolt

The simplisafe smartlock is not compatible with our single cylinder Kwikset deadbolt because the deadbolt and screws are on different planes. Has anyone figured out how to fix this problem without installing a new lock which defeats the purpose of the easy to install and use smartlock?

Why has simplisafe not updated any of the descriptions or instructions despite there being numerous posts in the community about this issue and acknowledgement from simplisafe staff. The lock is not compatible with all single cylinder deadbolts and this should be clarified to not waste customers money. I cannot return the lock very disappointed to have wasted my money and to have no recourse since we already have the system and have to keep paying them anyway.

Any update? I'd really like to know which locking mechanisms are compatible - otherwise I'll have to use a different system like Arlo, which I don't want to do.

Hi @acostamcnary ,

Unfortunately we're not able to provide a comprehensive list of brands or models. Do you already have a Smart Lock available? Don't forget, we do have a 60 Day Money Back guarantee, so you can at least give it a try on your deadbolt, and send it back for a full refund if it doesn't work for you.

I am not sure what the issue here is but I have successfully used a kwikset single cylinder deadbolt on 3 simplisafe locks.  The color connector that works with my kwiksets is red.  I fidlst placed it wrong side in and it did not work, once I took it off and flipped it, it worked fine.

Hi Erelakonto, would you mind sharing what type of Kwikset deadbolt set you had, please? I have the San Clemente set. The spindle on the inside half (the thumb turn portion) goes through the center of the deadbolt, while the outside half’s spindle goes below the deadbolt. The SimpliSafe smart lock adapter needs to mate with the outside spindle (which goes below the deadbolt) and thus the screw holes on the adapter don’t match up with those in the outside half. However it also needs to go through the deadbolt center for the deadbolt to work. Hopefully I’m making sense.
Question: How did you make this work? I’m ready to learn.

Thanks!

@mbt033 Unfortunately we aren't able to gather a list of locks that are (and are not) compatible with the Smart Lock. But I have forwarded your case details to our escalated Support team. A senior specialist will be in touch soon to help troubleshoot your Smart Lock with you, so please keep an ear out for their call.
