When the system is Armed, SimpliCam shutter behaves opposite to iOS setting

We have received reports of an issue when configuring the Privacy Shutter for the Simplicam Wired Indoor Camera, where settings for Home and Away mode seems to be reversed. e.g. when set to “Closed”, the shutter remains open in that mode, and vice versa. This seems to have been an issue with the iOS version of the SimpliSafe® app only, and Android is not affected.

Our dev team has identified the cause of the issue, and a fix has been rolled out in the latest version of the SimpliSafe® app (version 2100.28+). If the update is not yet available for you in the App Store, it should be soon!

As of today (12/14/2023) it seems that the SimpliCam Privacy Shutter “Open/Closed” setting label (just to the left of the 0/1 slide switch) has changed so that it now indicates the opposite of how the privacy shutter actually behaves.

When the Privacy Shutter setting slide switch is set to “1” the setting label reads “Open”. But the actual camera behavior is a CLOSED shutter.

When the Privacy Shutter setting slide switch is set to “0” the setting label reads “Closed”. But the actual camera behavior is an OPEN shutter

I’m using iOS on an iPhone. SS app version 2100.79

Has anyone else notice this?

Hi @dean_33,

Thank you for reporting this! Our internal teams are looking into this issue, and I've added your case to their ticket.

Today (12/20/2023) my iPhone SimpliSafe app updated to version 2100.28.0.

The “Open/Closed” setting label (just to the left of the 0/1 slide switch) now correctly reflects the position of the camera’s physical privacy shutter. When the label reads “Open” the physical privacy shutter on the camera is the OPEN position (and vice versa). Thank you emily_s.

I was a little surprised to see that the slide switch’s “0” and “1” meaning has be changed to the opposite of what is was in the previous app version and to the opposite of the DISABLE/ENABLE convention used elsewhere in the app (“0” = DISABLED and “1” = ENABLED)

It seems that if a user wants the “Privacy Shutter” to be enabled (placed in the physically closed position) then the slide switch should be placed in the “1” position. “1” = ENABLED.

In either case, the “Open/Closed” label is now correct. Thank you.
