Outdoor Camera Unable to Reconnect, Flashing Blue

Hi folks,

There is a known issue where some Outdoor Cameras may become unresponsive after reconnecting or charging/swapping batteries. You may see the LED flashing blue - indicating that the unit is actively attempting to send data - but it isn't able to send recordings or allow livestreams.

Firmware Update 1.18 contains a partial fix for this issue, and should now be rolled out to most users. You can check your camera’s version in the SimpliSafe® app:

  1. Tap the Cameras tab
  2. Tap the ⚙ Gear Icon (top right)
  3. Select your Outdoor Camera
  4. Scroll down to the bottom of the settings page

If your camera is showing the symptoms above and is ALREADY on firmware 1.18

You may still need to perform a reset to restore functionality:

  1. Remove the Camera from your system in the SimpliSafe® app:
  1. Tap the Cameras tab
  2. Tap the ⚙ Gear Icon (top right)
  3. Select your Outdoor Camera
  4. Scroll to the bottom and select X Remove Camera

  1. Reset the Camera itself:
  1. Press and hold the Pairing Button on the back of the camera
  2. Continue holding until the camera chimes (about 30 seconds)

You may see the LED indicator blinking white, indicating that it’s ready to set up.

  1. Return to the SimpliSafe® app to reinstall the camera:
  1. Tap the three-bar ☰ Menu icon on the top left
  2. Select Add Device or Camera
  3. Tap Let’s Go
  4. Scroll down and select Wireless Outdoor Cam
  5. Follow the instructions on the SimpliSafe® app for setup

If your camera is showing the symptoms above and is NOT on firmware 1.18

We will need to perform further troubleshooting, including possibly replacing your camera. Please contact our Support team and we’ll take care of you.

Hi

I disconnected my outdoor camera, and now can't reconnect.

I just get a flashing blue light, but it's not connected to the base station to record.

I've ran battery down, recharged, held reset button for 30 seconds, but nothing, still the flashing blue light.

Anyone experience this?

Thanks

Note: This comment was created from a merged conversation originally titled Outdoor camera won't reconnect as won't stop flashing blue.

Hey simply safe! Address this problem! A lot of people are having it as of recently. It sounds like your equipment is going defunct and you are ignoring this! If you do not take care of out of date equipment I will find a different company in which to spend my money with!

@lostdesertgirl, I can assure you that we are not ignoring this case. Are you experiencing this same issue with your Outdoor Camera?

Ome of mine synced with no problem. The other one is also flashing blue and won't connect. I've charged the battery, taken it out, pur it back in several times.  Nothing is working.

Same issue. What is the solution?!?

Same issue here, I have done all the things multiple times...even deleted the camera, just happening on one of my 3 outdoor cameras right now, just waiting for the other two to fail at this point. It happened to my plug in camera, not even on my solar powered ones...yet :(

Please help!!

@queenhallie After replacing the first camera on my system, I install solar panels on all of them. Unfortunately, the replacement camera froze on and drained the battery faster than the panel could charge it. Before I even realized I had an issue, the battery was completely drained and I haven't been able to reinstall the camera since. Now, I sit and wait for the whole system to fail so I can switch companies. In the meantime, I am less secure in a time when we need security.

With the prices we pay for these system, replacing an entire system isn't feasible during our current economic situation. They have us over a barrel. It's cheaper to buy more guns.

@shamillewharton @queenhallie ,

Thanks for checking in. Our engineers continue to work on the solution from our end. From what we know so far, it sounds like a firmware issue, so it can be resolved by a firmware update (so it's also not a hardware failure). We're continuing to report cases such as yours. You may get a call from our engineers to help with the investigation.

Though @queenhallie did you say you've only had trouble with your Indoor Camera? If you have a SimpliCam (which looks like this), then that works very differently from the Wireless Outdoor Camera, and yours might be a different issue entirely.

@smallwood626 Our engineers have isolated the root cause, but a solution isn't ready to roll out to users just yet. To get your system back online as fast as possible, I would reach out to our Support team for a replacement.

Same issue, second time around. Replacement camera is doing the exact same thing. Really doesn't seem worth the hassle since so many others are having the same issue.

Just wondering if I should sell my system and switch companies. I am too busy to just keep fixing the same issue. My problem is that I'm not a patient person. To me, it's easier to install a new system then "tape and glue" a glitchy system.

Hi @markbaker,

Just to confirm, you are setting up a new SimpliSafe system and your Outdoor Camera will not connect and it has a blinking blue light? Did your other SimpliSafe devices connect to your WiFi without a problem?

I am having the "blue light" problem with a camera that stopped responding on the system. I have a second camera that keeps dropping off as well. I followed the troubleshooting procedures twice with the same result. This is the third wireless outdoor camera with issues (they had different problems, both had to be replaced). I am regretting my decision to invest my time and money and this system.

@Mlyke If your Outdoor Camera still has a blinking blue light and won't reconnect to your system after resetting it as described above, I would then contact our Support team for further assistance.

Hello,

I seem to be having the same issue as everyone else. 1/4 of my cameras have the blue flashing light but is not displaying any video data in the app or live-streaming. I tried multiple times to hard reset but I keep getting the flashing blue light instead of the flashing white light. Ive tried removing the battery multiple times, allowed it to die and recharge, I also tried deleting the camera from the app but now I can't even get it back on because it won't reset. My garage was broken into and because of the camera not working like it should have I do not have any footage. This is very frustrating.

I have the same issue on the newest of my 6 outdoor camers. This one was purchased Nov, 2022. Blue motion sensor light flashes about every 20 seconds, and kills batteries in a couple of days. I have relocated the camera, performed a soft reset, deleted and reinstalled after a hard reset. Camera does trigger on a motion event, and does record, just flashes and kills the battery when there is no motion event. Camera software version is v1.15.6.391. Please note, my other 5 outdoor cameras, ranging from 5 months to 2 years old, have not given any problems. Hopefully there will be a solution soon.

I have the same issue with an outdoor camera connected to solar. I tried replacing the battery and it continues to flash blue. When I try to view it from the app the screen is black and it gets stuck on “launching live view”.

@kcush thanks for reporting. It's possible that we can restore that camera through a reset - by pressing the Pairing Button on the back for 30 seconds. That will fully wipe the unit, and you can set it up again like new through the SimpliSafe app. Have you already tried that?

Same issue with the camera as everyone else

Same here.  One is fine, the other blinks blue.  Actually noticed this as I was going into the account to buy more.  Guess we'll skip that for now.

I'm having the same issue.  Blinking Blue light, can't reinstall the camera.  Held the button in for 30+ seconds with battery installed.

hey I am having a problem with one of my outdoor cameras. It's constantly flashing blue, even though I have pressed the back button for 30 seconds. Then I try to add it again to the system. The system 's voice says "camera Added" but in the app I don't see it and I can't even rename it.  So what gives?

@Duomo If your Outdoor Camera was on firmware 1.18 before entering this error state, resetting the camera should help to bring it back online. However, since you do not see this camera on your system, I would recommend contacting our Support team for further troubleshooting.
