Launching the App triggers camera recordings

We identified an issue where just launching the SimpliSafe app, or refreshing to obtain data from the Base Station, may trigger a Camera Motion Detected event and recordings from associated cameras on the account.

The expected behavior is that your cameras should only record when there is an Alarm Event, your are arming or disarming, or if the camera itself detects motion when active.

With the release of firmware 1.20, we can confirm that this issue should now be RESOLVED. You can check your camera’s current version through the SimpliSafe™ smartphone app by navigating to: My System > Camera Settings > [Camera Name], and scrolling all the way to the bottom. But if you’re still seeing the issue after your camera has already updated, please let us know here.

Similar situation.  Every time I open the app to check my push notifications, it triggers a camera motion detected push notification.  This started several weeks ago.  I’m in a perpetual push notification spiral.

Hi @jwgdeacon ,

Your situation is very different and also very strange, so I split it off into a new post. It shouldn't be possible to actually set off your cameras just from opening the SimpliSafe app.

Could it be possible that you're getting just the notifications from events, and not the actual recordings themselves? That is, that the notifications are somehow being held back until you launch the app, and then they all come at once.

Of course, that shouldn't be happening either. I would suggest uninstalling and reinstalling the SimpliSafe app, if you haven't already. And make sure to allow permission for notifications if the SimpliSafe app requests it.

@davey_d  I’m having the same issue with 2 of 3 cameras.  Open the app and both send motion notifications and start recording.  Strangely the spotlights are not on at first and take a few seconds to turn on which is new as well.  Was there ever a solution to this?

@mrfeebs This is interesting. Have you already tried what Davey suggested above and uninstall/reinstall the SimpliSafe mobile app from your device?

I have the app installed on 3 separate devices, same thing happens when I open on each one.

@mrfeebs When did you begin to notice to happen? And could you please let me know the operating system (iOS or Android) for the devices you use to open the SimpliSafe mobile app so I can bring this to our engineers.
