Wired Smoke Detectors

I was wondering about the feasibility of smoke and carbon monoxide detectors that are also wired to integrate into other smoke detector products that are wired to signal the other detectors to trigger their alarm too.  For example, Kidde wired alarms use 3 wires to communicate to the other smoke detectors and all alarms sound if one detector is tripped.
