Panic button - "malfunction"

My system reports the panic button's status as "malfunction".  I've replaced the battery, but it made no difference.  This is a prior generation Simplisafe system & panic button.

Is there anything I can try to get this working again?

Try deleting and re adding to system and see if that does anything

@teamblanco I agree with Lance843, I would try removing this Panic Button from your system and then add it back. Instructions for removing devices from your system can be found in this Help Center article.

If removing and re-adding the Panic Button doesn't help, I would then recommend reaching out to our Support team for additional assistance.

I got the same error tonight on my original system. I don't have a replacement battery, will need to get one. Was there any resolution to the issue discovered/reported?

@kjwedan If you haven't tried this already, it can help to remove the Panic Button from your system and then add it back in using the steps listed in this article in our Help Center.

However, if that doesn't help there may be an issue with the device itself. In that case, I would recommend connecting with our Support team for some real time troubleshooting.

Thank you emily_s. I did remove it and reconnect it just after my last post and it worked fine until tonight when we got the same error again. Removing and reconnecting seems to resolve the issue temporarily but apparently not long term. Most likely a new one is in order to resolve the issue permanently.

Hi @kjwedan ,

It sounds like you were able to temporarily resolve the symptom, but the underlying cause remained.

From historical reports, we've heard that the Panic Button from the Original system can be a bit more susceptible to interference. That could be either physical interference, caused by dense physical objects (like walls or heavy appliances) literally getting in the way. It is fairly common as well to keep the Panic Button somewhere hidden - such as inside a closed, or underneath the bed, where it might not have the best time communicating.

Or it could be caused by wireless interference, from other devices that communicate wirelessly, drowning out the SimpliSafe signal.

One thing you can try, even if just temporarily, is to move the Panic Button, even if it's just a couple of feet into a more open space. Or you could move the Base Station instead.

If that doesn't work, then yes, our Support team can try sending a replacement. It's just that if this is an environmental issue, a replacement would eventually end up having the same problem again.
