Connecting to Starlink

I recently changed from verizon hotspot to Starlink, how do I know if my SimpliSafe security system is connected to StarLink?

Hi @airforcevet19721976,

You can check to see if the Base Station is connected to your Starlink network in the SimpliSafe mobile app. If you go to My System > Base Station Settings > WiFi Network you will see the name of the Wi-Fi network that the Base Station is connected to. If you see the name of your new Starlink network, you will know that the Base Station is connected to it.

If the Base Station is not connected this network, I recommend following the steps in this Help Center article to connect it.

@emily_s I am not seeing "WiFi Network" in "Base Station Settings".

No link to dispatch, is this a problem due to my starlink WiFi?

@airforcevet19721976 A No Link to Dispatcher error message indicates that your Base Station is not connected to your WiFi network and/or cellular backup.

The troubleshooting steps you should take to resolve this error depends on the version of the SimpliSafe® system you have. Do you have the Gen 3 SimpliSafe® system, or the Original SimpliSafe® system? If you don't know, check out the Which Version of the SimpliSafe® System Do I Have article in the Help Center.

If you have a Gen 3 system, you would want to troubleshoot the Base Station's connection to WiFi and its cellular backup. Check out the No Link to Dispatcher Warning (Gen 3 SimpliSafe®) article in the Help Center for a list of troubleshooting steps to take.

If you have an Original system, you would want to troubleshoot its cellular connection only, as the Original system does not connect to WiFi. Try moving the Base Station near (but not directly next to) a window to help improve its cellular strength. If you happen to know where your nearest cellular tower is, we recommend moving the Base Station near a window closest to that tower. For additional troubleshooting tips, check out the No Link to Dispatcher Warning (Original SimpliSafe®) article.

@airforcevet19721976 Did you hook up an external router for just Simplisafe or lot 2.4ghz devices?

The celluar connection has little to do with the wifi, other than strength of your celluar signal. SS might be Verizon 4LTE.🤷

Failover may take a few seconds to minute to get a call home

connection via the example, Verizon.

Latency is the issue with Starlinks wifi, gen2 has an Ethernet connector for external router or extender for sale.

Gen3 etc. supposed to be built in. Starlink latency is due to satellites in orbit can vary from not bad to bad. 20-40ms perhaps on average but can fluctuate higher or lower for many reasons.

Constant failover from wifi ro cellular could expose weaknesses in the celluar connection. If any exist. Weak 4LTE.

So, you could split the 2.4ghz & 5ghz bands in Starlink, bypass the Starlink Wi-Fi to an external 2 .4ghz router or extender. (depending) Netgear etc. if a large home consider Mesh wifi.

That will help "some" with the Wi-Fi, to the degree possible. Simplisafe issues with normal WiFi isn't new. Especially outdoor cameras.

I can also say from reading here, base station wifi disconnecting isn't anything new even without Starlink involved.

Neither is no link to dispatch issues without any Starlink involved something that's extremely new, if you read long enough here. Maybe rare but not new. IMHO

You didn't outline what you've done since first post so I went all in. If you already did some or all of these things, just ignore my post.

Assumes Simplisafe SS3 etc.

Good luck!

Thank you, Marko is sending me a replacement base station.
