Location Based Reminders - Arming Automations

I have been trying to figure out the value of this beta feature (especially since my subscription will be increasing).  Can someone provide me with a realistic example of how this feature might be used?

Thanks!

@rpierce01 Location-Based Arming Reminders is a popular product request here in the Community. This feature will make arming and disarming the SimpliSafe® system easier for our users!

If you leave your home with the system disarmed, you will receive a push notification prompting you to rm your system - this way your home is never left unprotected. This feature can also help prevent false alarms. As you approach your home, you will be notified to disarm your system, preventing you from accidentally triggering an alarm. For more details, see the Location-Based Arming Reminders Beta article on the Help Center.

I have entered the location based arming Beta and while it is a needed improvement I would argue there are 2 major things that keep it from being valuable.

1) First off the notifications are next to useless to me mainly because all notifications are treated the same at all times of the day/night. For instance a notification when I am not home of my smoke alarm going off is something I would love to be able to distinguish from a motion notification that my camera caught a tree branch blowing in the wind. Because notifications are all the same I either have to be alerted audibly by every little thing or nothing. If there was a way to select which notifications got "special" treatment and which were normal and I could assign that based on notifications that were important to me then I think the arming reminder could become more valuable.

2) Unfortunately the bigger problem with the arming reminders is it doesn't consider if someone else is home. If I leave home and my wife is still there it still pops up and tries to remind me to set the alarm. Why doesn't the system check first if there is someone home?

Lastly the other gap in my mind is the geofencing that provides the reminder isn't configurable by the user and in my personal use case (coupled with the poor notification process) it doesn't remind me the alarm is on until I am within a couple of blocks of home and I am driving so not paying attention to a visual notification that my alarm is on. If I could set the distance then at least I might have a chance of seeing the notification when sitting at a stop light or something like that.

Exactly!  This is why I was trying to figure out the real value of this feature.

@simplisafe_admin Thanks for the reply!  I understand the basic functionality.  I was hoping for some real life examples demonstrating the need for this function.  If this is a popular product request, there should be some examples of why this functionality was requested, right?

Hi Simplisafe,

l might be answering my own question here, unless it’s an oversight or an error.

Is the beta for Location Based Arming Reminders only available in the U.S. as l’m not seeing an option to opt in the U.K. version of the app?

Thanks

Craig.

Thats a feature?

Most modern phones already do geofence reminders.

I've been getting arm & disarm geofence reminders for years, even reads it out loud if I wish, among all the other reminders.

On all my Samsungs using the built in modes & routines automations & GPS location tracking.

Actually, I arm & disarm using geofencing, reminders are just a double check for me entering or leaving zone. (My own hardware & programming of course)

If an older phone, there are apps available here and in the Uk that might suffice.

You may already have it and just aren't aware of it. Search up how to do geofence reminders on your phone model.

They're handy for grocery store waypoint reminders 😉

The question I'd have that will not be answered, is why such a narrow feature that's already mostly available and not all out arm and disarm with geofencing?

Perhaps the supposed SS feature isn't geofence at all and just monitors your phone location to the base station somehow or in the app. (SS Tracking)

Plus, it may be a subsciber feature only, and if so, leaves a lot of people out anyhow.

Us self monitoring free riders (loaders) don't get much. Lol
