Wireless interference and broken system

I am writing here because customer service has been incompetent and it appears I have nowhere else to turn. Hopefully the community can help me resolve these issues.

I’ve had the SimpliSafe system at this house for about 3 years. Has been working fine with no issues and I was very happy with it. Recently I started getting “wireless interference detected” messages. Nothing has changed in the house and no additional appliances were placed anywhere near the base station. Alert would pop on randomly and resolve itself in about 5 minutes. At first I just ignored it, then it started happening more frequently where it would just spam over and over again. I called customer service, they had me do the whole song and dance of taking batteries out and moving the base station around. Eventually after a couple of hours of tinkering with it the cs rep wiped the settings on their end and that seemed to have fixed wireless interference, but it also made it so that the keypad wouldn’t connect. I was told the only way to fix it would be to move the base station or keypad to a new location otherwise the system would not work, even though it worked fine for 3 years without any issues at the current location.

The next day I opened the door and realized there was no chime. I set the alarm and opened the door again and nothing happened, no count down, no alarm. So the “fix” that cs did the night before not only made it so base station wouldn’t talk to the keypad it also made it so that none of the sensor worked. I called again, they had me reset stuff, re add sensors, pull batteries in and out, nothing worked, the base station did not recognize any of the sensors. So they sent me a new base station.

New base station came the next day, it was very impressive how quickly that happened. I followed instructions and replaced the old base station. Except this time one of the cameras would not connect. I called customer service and they found that the base station that was just sent to me did not have latest firmware installed and I needed to update it. Ok, so I did, the moment latest firmware was installed the new base station announced “wireless interference detected” ….

so I call again, and again another service rep has be pull batteries in and out, eventually she just gave up and said she was going to escalate it and someone would call me by 12pm. It is now 6pm the next day and no one has called, so I guess my case was not escalated.

To top it all off the new base station is telling me that there is a power outage and it’s running off of battery power, even though it is plugged into the outlet. No amount of resetting has helped and customer service just keeps sending me links to replacement instructions, which I have already followed and completed.

So here we are. I have two base stations, both are giving me wireless interference warnings once they have latest firmware installed. One will not connect to any sensors and the other thinks it’s running on battery power.

This has been a complete $#!% show.

It appears that something about the latest firmware is detecting wireless interference that wasn’t there before. Is there a way for SimpliSafe to change the frequency on which the base station operates to avoid that?

@Caniac I will tell you that in the past I had an "interference issue" twice in 12 years (one on the old SS2 and once on the SS3 and the agent I spoke with did something that addressed the issue. What, don't know, sorry, but I can tell you speaking again to a front line support agent is not the answer. which I think you would agree.

To stop the merry-go-round, politely call support and ask for a callback from a technical specialist to arrange a mutually convenient time to discuss the sitatuion, what has happened and next step. Based on your post, it does appear the latest firmware is suspect and the TS should be able to assist. Unfortutunately, I checked with6 other SS3 owners, all of us with the latest firmware, and not having this issue.

Please post your outcome here if you get a chance.  Thanks!

Hi @Caniac,

The Wireless Interference Detected message is the system notifying you that it detects interference. This can be caused by electronics or appliances in the home that broadcast a radio frequency on the same band as our sensors. Think appliances like remote garage door openers, baby monitors, or wireless weather stations. While we will want to isolate the root cause of this problem so you don't keep getting this notification, the threshold at which interference is detected can be changed.

I've opened a ticket with our escalated support team on your behalf. A specialist will be in touch to troubleshoot your system with you soon.
