Solved daily wifi disconnects

I was having issues with my Simplisafe disconnecting from wifi on a daily basis. It usually would only happen once per day, and would last anywhere from 1-15 minutes and reconnect. I saw on this forum that some other people had the same issue. So at first I thought it might be a Simplisafe issue.

However, I recently did a revamp of my home network, and in the process I discovered I have bad cabling (I have cable internet), and too many splits in my cable were causing internet stability issues. While the instability was not enough to experience regular disconnects from my modem, I think it's highly likely that the instability was causing issues with some of my devices (the Simplisafe disconnects weren't my only issue).

I removed all splits from my cabling, and also changed my mesh system from Nest wifi to Asus ET12 mesh. The Simplisafe no longer disconnects from wifi.

I'm not saying this solution will work for everyone, but if you are experiencing what I did, and you happen to have cable internet, check your cable modem signals. For most cable modems, you log into 192.168.100.1 on your web browser, and you can check the diagnostics. For my Motorola modem, you go to "advanced" then "Connection." You'll see diagnostics for download and upload stream. You'll want to check with your ISP as to what are the right range for specs, but for my provider Xfinity, you want to make sure your downstream power levels are between -10 and +10 dbmv, and your upstream power levels between 35 and 50 dbmv. You also want to make sure you're not getting a bunch of uncorrected errors in the diagnostics. In my case, I my upstream power was hovering around 53-54, and I was getting tons of uncorrected errors. I removed all splits, upstream power went to 42-43, and all the uncorrected errors vanished.

So if you do find you've got some cable signal issues, try removing some cable splits if you can, as each split reduces the signal to your cable modem.

It's also possible that there may be an issue with Simplisafe and Nest mesh wifi, as I saw someone else have the regular disconnects. So a different mesh system might also solve the issue. Also, if you're using a mesh wifi system, make sure your Simplisafe base station isn't placed where there's significant overlap in the signal between your mesh points. You may get issues where your base station will hop between mesh points as the strength of the wifi signal of each point naturally varies through the day. Every time it hops, it will disconnect and reconnect to wifi.

Hope this helps at least a few people who had this issue.
