Bought a Simplisafe setup while thrifting

So while thrift shopping, I bought a donated simplisafe system in a box because I thought it would be an easy way to buy parts and start. I got a base, keypad, sensor, doorbell and camera for a decent price still new in the box it appeared. I took it home and tried to download the app but the base is registered to the person that donated. I have no clue who the person is. I assumed the base was interchangeable and i could buy the extra parts i needed to subscribe but apparently i was wrong. Is there anything I can do or did I make a mistake with Simplisafe?

Hi @PuraVida,

The Base Station and our devices can be sold and added to new accounts. It sounds like the previous owner of this system did not cancel their Monitoring Plan, which means that the Base Station can not be added to a new plan/account.

We would need to cancel that other monitoring plan in order to allow you to set up this system successfully. I've gone ahead and forwarded your case to our Specialist team. A senior specialist will email you soon to help.

Hey,

I did the same. Bought the device via the Facebook market place. However, now I'm not able to connect. It says it is already registered.

@arbab_92 If you buy a used system and the previous owner didn't transfer ownership through SS, it will not work. Suggest if it is a SS3 system, and you want to use it, call SS and they will walk you through the process of getting it deregistered and assigned to you. If it is a SS1 or SS2 system, my personal advice, is to throw it out.

Good luck.

BTW, you can go to the main home page, click on "Add to my system" and it will show you  a picture of the SS3 and SS2 base units so you can tell them apart.
