Verizon Home 5G Wireless Broadband Upgrade - Experiment
For those of you that have followed my posts over the past 12 years know 3 things about me:
1. Loyal SS customer who thinks they are the best overall and most effective home security solution (but will call them out on the carpet when appropriate)
2. Despise ADT, and, less mentioned
3. Despise Comcast
After many years with Comcast and a brief stint of 3 years with AT&T, last year I signed up with Verizon's wireless broadband service. Inexpensive and faster internet (had 70 Mbps down, 10 up) Verizon delivered the promised 300 down and 20 up. All of my SS cameras (2 outdoor, doorbell pro, and 3 SA) work fine and performance, reliability etc are all great. But as we all know, fast is never good enough. :-)
About a month ago I noticed that my cell phone, while not on WIFI, started getting speed test results of close to 1 gig! Then I noticed the small "UW" next to the 5G symbol and realized our local tower had been upgraded. A quick call to Verizon support and a transfer to their networking team confirmed the upgrade; unfortunately, I was advised it was not ready for customers, however for my "trouble" I would get a month of free internet. (Not expected but greatly appreciated). Yesterday I got a call from Verizon tech support and asked how I would like to be the first in our area to test the upgraded service - AKA being their crash test dummy.) As I excitedly told my wife, as usual rolled her eyes and said "Whatever, and how long will we be without internet?". Boy, do I hate that she knows me so well.
The new gateway should be arriving Tuesday and will find out if I will get the 950 down and 75 up that was promised!
Will report back shortly after that if things went according to plan and how my 5 SS cameras do.
Update: The gateway order was processed on a weekend, shipping out of Texas so now the delivery date is projected for Wednesday or, if I'm not home sign for it. Thursday.

Update on Verizon 5G Home Broadband
New gateway arrived, two days late (but that's on UPS). Easy install, up and running and....absolutely no change in speed, down or up. After 30 minutes on phone with VZ support, advised there is "modifications" required and will take 1-4 days. Said okay and now patiently waiting, doing speed tests 2x a day. Will wait until Monday before contacting VZ support again. I did have to unplug and plug back in my Google WIFI router/points but SS3 is performing as expected, including my six cameras. Update late Monday.
