video

I feel caught in the middle by the video verification.  I only have a video doorbell so unless a burgler comes within range of that, video verification won't help.  In fact, if they come in the other 3 sides of my house, "video verification" is going to feel like its a false alarm or at the very least, low priority.  Unless you have 360 degree views of everywhere someone can break into my house, I can't use video verification without it ending up causing me harm .  You need to re-think this.  I know the police probably love it but I don't have confidence that will prioritize my alarm just because I don't have cameras all around my property.  That is why I have alarms

Hi @jeancarman7 ,

Just for those who are unfamiliar, Video Verification is a feature of Interactive Monitoring where during an alarm event, your system will send the recordings from that one alarm event to the Monitoring operator. So if an intruder happened to walk in front of a camera, the operator can verify and act as an eyewitness that there is indeed a suspicious person on the property.

The fact is that false alarms from security systems in general are very common. So there are a lot of police departments who treat reports from alarm companies at a lower priority. Some municipalities won't even dispatch at all without a witness account! That's the problem that Video Verification can solve.

It's important to know that only recordings of the event (from all cameras) are actually sent to the Monitoring operator. They have no ability to see any other recordings in your Timeline, nor the live feed. And they also have no ability to share that video with anyone else.

So jeancarman7, you're right that you're going to get the most out of it if you have more cameras, especially Indoor Cameras strategically placed in your home. But there's also no detriment if you just wanted to have it enabled with just one camera active. If no intruder is caught on camera, the Monitoring operator will just treat the event like normal. Think of it like Video Verification will only add to the info that our operator can hand over to your local police. But having it disabled will not otherwise negatively impact your chances of dispatch.

@davey_d I understand the false alarm issue but in our city, we have to pay annually to have an alarm system and if false alarms are sent to the police, we are fined significantly.    If I need 360 visual of my house to get the police here when they are needed, then it should be part of the base package otherwise I'm paying for "low priority".  I can promise you if my alarm goes off and I don't cancel it, I'm in trouble and I need help.  I have never had a false alarm reported to the police in the 25 years I've had an alarm system.

@jeancarman7 I also hear what you're saying. We don't really have a "base package", because we're all about customizing the system to fit each individual home. It sounds like for your needs, you happen to want more than just the one camera that you have. Our Support team can definitely help with expanding your current system.

No, I don't want more than one camera.  I simply want the alarm that I paid for to be treated seriously when it goes off.  If I need 360 degree video verification, it becomes cost prohibitive

@jeancarman7 After reading your post, I can understand where, in your circumstance and setup, video verification is of limited value, but how could it "harm" you?  The only negative effect it could possibly have if your local police jurisdiction required it, as far as I can think of.

I have opted in, and have the doorbell pro, 2 outdoor cameras and 3 Simplicams that cover my entire first floor.  I anticipate that only the interior cameras would probably come into play with video verficiation in most instances.  I should note the camreras only have the privacy shutter open when the system is armed in home or away, so we are either asleep on the 2nd floor or not at home. In either instance, in an alarm event, I want the police dispatched asap if the montiroing company sees someone on the cameras.

It can harm me if an intruder accesses my house from a view away from the doorbell camera, my glassbreaks go off or my door sensors go off and I'm alone with an intruder and its treated as low priority.
