Video doorbell without existing doorbell

I’m trying to install the video doorbell and our home doesn’t have an existing doorbell. I assumed the SimpliSafe doorbell was similar to ring, blink and other doorbells that use a battery. Is there a way to make the SimpliSafe doorbell work with a battery or do I need to get an electrician out to wire things up? We use SimpliSafe for all of our home security so I’d like to keep the doorbell on the same system.

@raharriscustoms The Video Doorbell Pro requires doorbell wiring from an existing analog doorbell in order to receive power. Unfortunately, the Video Doorbell Pro cannot power on without the wiring.

Thank you for this response, but if I have the outdoor doorbell wiring to the front door, but not the actual *doorbell* inside (which was removed from our interior during a recent remodel), will the Video Doorbell Pro still be functional? In other words, I could hardwire it outside but don't have a doorbell inside. Still OK?

@john4ac8ea Are you referring to the chime box inside your home? The Video Doorbell Pro also requires a mechanical chime box as part of its setup (it is not compatible with digital chimes).

The chime box works as a resistor for the Video Doorbell Pro; without one, it could cause damage to your transformer or the doorbell itself.

Yes, I was referring to our old chime box. Your answer is helpful...thanks for the quick response.

But if you have no old chime box, what do you do?  Insert a resistor?  If so how many ohms and what is the suggested power rating in watts?

@middlejim The Video Doorbell Pro requires a mechanical chime box as part of its setup. If you do not have a pre-existing chime box, one would need to be installed.

@middlejim You can search up Ohmkat for Simplisafe doorbell pro. It eliminates the need for a chime connector or chime, but all you'll get notifications for sound or button press is on your phone.

Compatibility and Design: The OhmKat Video Doorbell Power Supply is specifically designed for the SimpliSafe Pro Smart Wi-Fi Video Doorbell. It provides a direct power source without requiring existing doorbell wiring or a mechanical chime, making installation simpler for homes without pre-existing setups

Better yet here's a link. Copy & paste in your broswer. Due diligence on your part to read on that website, check reviews and questions posted.

I think its one each per doorbell. If you read enough they may have a chime solution. ie; perhaps their wirless chime transmitter.

Ask questions at Ohmkat if reading isn't enough.
