Unless you pay for a monitoring plan you can only view a live feed. You cannot record. You can see a detailed list of what you can do without a subscription at https://support.simplisafe.com/hc/en-us/articles/360023809972-What-are-the-service-plan-options- at the bottom of the page.

When I told Simplisafe I didn't want a subscription they shut down all my cameras including my doorbell. When I called them back I was told I had to have a subscription for the cameras to work.

@rttate1​ You will have to call support again, if they're still untrained, ask for a supervisor, their over there support evidently don't ask for clarification.

If you said cancel they turn it off, if you ask for downgrade to self monitoring then you should still be able to use the system some, live views, sensors, arming disarming, alarm notifications etc. limited.

@rttate1​  I don't think they can shut down your cameras remotely.  They will work no matter what if powered on.   The only issue is whether you can store video.  Which you can't without a subscription.   So you need to explain what you mean by "they shut down all my cameras".

@rttate1​ What is the exact issue that you are experiencing with your cameras? If you aren't subscribed to a monitoring plan your cameras should be able to detect motion and livestream. But in order for your cameras to record and save videos, a monitoring plan is required.

It's the difference between downgrade to self monitoring and cancelling. Cancel shuts the system down completely and is unusable. He'll probably have to set it up all over again.

Happens quite a bit per reports on this forum, forcing yet another call and one more shot at retention I guess.😉

Maybe it's also the untrained or incompetent overseas support personnel or at least uncaring to at least ask a customer.

Not getting any of your monitoring money monthly isn't exactly a top priority. Lol

This may happen to others but I cancelled recently and I didn't have to set anything up again. That said, the sensors I had set to secret alert STAYED set to secret alert (despite that not being an option any longer) which caused some alarm. (No pun intended.) Oh and they're still trying to charge my card regularly and are bombarding me via text, in the app, etc. about how I haven't paid for the monitoring I don't have.
