Doorbell Humming

After installing a camera for my back door. My doorbell box inside the home is now making a "buzz/humming" sound.

This post refers to an issue that can be resolved by the Doorbell Chime Connector. For more info, click here.

This is a common problem. Too bad this forum is not searchable. I believe support can send you a module to plug into your doorbell chime. I just put a 10 ohm resistor across the chime connectors and that fixed the issue.

You can short a 10ohm resistor across the inside door bell terminal and that will alleviate the humming.  This bleeds off just enough current to keep the doorbell from trying to engage.

Thanks for posting the solution. Since it's a common problem, SimpliSafe should pin this or include it in the instructions. With no forum search box, I'm glad I found this thread without having to click through many pages. Fortunately, I had a 10 ohm resistor (cannibalized an old radio!). There's still a slight hum but it's not noticeable with the cover on.

Thanks for posting this information. I checked with my local electronics shop and they asked me how many watts it needs to be. Anybody know what wattage worked for them?

I used a 10 ohm 1/2 watt

Hi, can I put the resistor across the terminals inside the doorbell? If not, which of the 3 wires in the doorbell chime do I put the resistor across?
Thanks!

I have both a front door and back door video pro camera doorbell.  Inside doorbell chime is humming.  Do I put a resistor from the front terminal to the middle transformer terminal, and then another resistor from the back terminal to the middle transformer terminal?  Does anyone know?

Thanks!

Had this same issue. First person I spoke to at technical support didn't understand the issue. Spent a long time looking online for a resistor that would work and be simple. But then I tried technical support again the next day, and right away I was told this is a known issue and they're mailing me a component to install to regulate the power at no charge. Call technical support until you get someone that's familiar with the issue.

I have this issue and just spoke to support.  They referred to the component as a "chime connector".  Sounds like a common issue and I should have the free part in a couple days.  They also threw in a month of service for free for the inconvenience!

For reference, it's called a chime connector. Called Simplisafe and they're mailing one out.

I received the Chime Connector but still had the buzzing. I found out the solution at this website: https://keithjonesit.com/simplisafe-doorbell-buzz/

@keithjonesit

if I follow his ultimate solution correctly he didn’t even need the chime connector, correct? just needed to make sure the power was aligned and to bypass one of the connections
