Doorbell humming

Installed the door bell last night purchased from Best Buy. Comes with the different face plate colors mint green/black/white. Setup was easy and fast. Just a FYI when using the bar code to connect the phone to wifi just move it around it will eventually connect. I replaced my Ring (cheapest one) I have had for about 5 years. The response time for the notification on the iOS app is blazing fast is awesome. One issue I am noticing though is that my inside door bell chime (electronic) is now making a slight low sounding humming noise. Any thought? Could the wires be touching? Thanks.

This was posted on another thread.

@ General_KAOS, I found that my install produced some noise on the audio and took the housing off to check my handiwork. I suspected, correctly, I had left the bare wire too long. Cut it back to 1/3 of an inch, just enough to wrap around the terminals and the noise went away. Other than that, the doorbell chime, camera etc were all good right out of the box. Again, zoom and lens quality awesome.

@fastbagger - is it constant or intermittent humming?  If it is intermittent, based on my experience, the original house door bell unit hums when the camera is active.  When the camera is inactive all is quiet.

It is consistent I am going to check to make sure the wires are not touching.

Update: I checked the wiring all good. As soon as I removed the doorbell from the bracket the buzzing stopped and returned when I reinstalled. Appears somehow the doorbell is giving some feed back.

I too am facing the same issue, the humming sound goes away when removing the doorbell from the backet. Did anyone got any resolution to this yet?

Same.  Door bell right next to bedroom, so it's really annoying.

@ hitarrin, mine hummed when in the app but couldn't hear anything when actually near it.  Trimming the bare wire to about 1/3 of an inch to wrap around the terminals took care of the humming while actively using the app.

tried all the options, snapped the wires to shorten the length, switched them etc. etc., nothing worked. Looks like only option left is to return it back and wait for the updated product. They said that chime connector should be released pretty soon though.

@nitin.its - not sure I am going to want/need the chime connector, but would you provide the Iink to this announcement?

They told me during the phone conversation, don't have the link yet but they said that it should be there in 1-2 weeks. Did not said if it is available at the website.

hey Captain - any bets on what 1-2 weeks translates into in terms of SS user years?  What is the relationship to dog years?  Just kidding on the "bet" portion of this post, but not the alternate timing.

@General, yes I know the charity bet I lost on timing of the doorbell release but don't know what you mean on the post from yesterday, Oct 26th. Sorry for being a bit dense but can you rephrase?  What link, what updated product?

Having the same buzzing problem. Wires are not touching. Every time I pop on the SimpliSafe doorbell the humming sound comes back. Any solution?

Asked the support today about the above issue. They said that electronic doorbells are not supported =(( and that I can return the device...

I am having the same issues, humming at the chime unit when the doorbell is attached.

If this is not compatible with "electronic doorbells" what is it compatible with?  Can I replace the chime unit with something that is supported?

My comment was related to a couple of posts by nitin.its relaying SS support said a chime connector that would be released in 1-2 weeks.  I was being a smart ****** expecting that 1-2 weeks to turn into several months (at least).  SS' 2 weeks seems to be equate to about 10 months in SS user's time.

I just installed the video doorbell and also have the issue with a constant hum. Also when the doorbell button is pressed I get a ding but no dong. Checked wiring and nothing touching. Also wires are snipped short. Did anyone come up with a solution?

Same here.

I called support and was told that I needed a  "Doorbell Chime Connecter'.  They are sending me one via USPS and I should have it in 5 business days.

Here is what is looks like in my orders section of my account page:

1 √ó Doorbell Chime Connecter - $0.00 ($0.00 each)

Called them yesterday.  They said they'd send me a free Doorbell Chime Connector as well.  I asked him for more information on what it actually does, and he said the paragraph they are told to read says it "fixes it", and that's all him or anyone there knew about it.
He also said there should be more information on the website, which I'm pretty sure doesn't exist.  We'll see what happens when it gets here Monday.

I went to an electronics store close to me and asked for a 10 ohm 1/2 watt resistor. They had some and gave me one for free! I placed this across connectors inside the chime where the 2 wires are connected. Issue fixed! no more hum and the doorbell now goes ding/dong (before it would only go ding and no dong). I have an analog doorbell. The issue, I think, is that the camera draws a lot more power than with just the doorbell button on. This seems to make the chime think the button is partially pressed. The resistor fixes this somehow. (I'm not an electrician so just my high level take away)

I tried to call Simplisafe earlier and told them my doorbell chime was humming and I needed their doorbell chime connector. The guy put me on hold and after 10 minutes of waiting, I hung up and headed to the electronics store.

@kennybryant  - was wondering what your logic was behind getting only a 1/2 watt resistor. Not calling you wrong or anything, just wondering what type I would need if my current system is 12 VAC.

THANKS!!

@dzmarko1 - I was doing some research on why a doorbell would hum and came across some info related to other video doorbells. There was a recommendation to use a 10 ohm 1/2 watt resister followed by several posts indicating this worked. So, I tried this on my simplisafe doorbell and the humming went away. The doorbell also started ringing properly with ding-dong rather than just ding. I'm not an electrician by any means, so not sure if this would work in you scenario. The resistors are dirt cheap and would be easy to try.

I have found resistors on amazon that are  10 Ohm, 1/2W 5% Carbon Film Resistor (5-Pack). Will these work if we need it????
