Doorbell Camera Issues

Doorbell Camera help!

We live in a high crime area

We have our doorbell camera set to On.

Motion Events On

Motion Notifications On

Daytime Sensitivity Low

Night Sensitivity Medium

People Only

Plus we have the street in front of our house blacked out of Event Notfictations in the Activity Zone.

We ONLY want to be alerted when someone is on our porch- yet instead we receive 30- 50 alerts per day for everything else- cars, wind, who knows what else.

Next steps?

@krhine6 Try the following:

Go to the zone section and block out all perimeter zones: top, bottom, and sides.  Save.  See how it goes; if still too many notifications, start to block out the street with more zones. Save, and wait to see the results. Still an issue? Call support and troubleshoot.

Please, if you get a chance, post your outcome here. Thanks!

@captain11 Thanks, I've already blocked out everything I can besides the porch. I've contacted customer service multiple times with zero results. they are useless.

Hi @krhine6,

It sounds like the Video Doorbell isn't adhering to the Activity Zones you set up. I would recommend performing a reset on the doorbell to refresh its firmware.

This can be done by pressing and holding the button on the back of the doorbell for 30 seconds. Once you release it, you will be prompted to set the doorbell back up in the SimpliSafe mobile app.

@krhine6 Understood! The Video Doorbell works by using passive infrared (PIR) to detect moving sources of heat in contrast to the environment outside. If a small bug or lizard was able to crawl around on the doorbell, or there was a sudden blast of heat (live from a vent or car exhaust) that could trigger the Video Doorbell to record when nothing seems to be in the frame.

That however doesn't explain why the Video Doorbell would record motion outside of your Activity Zones. I've gone ahead and forwarded your case to our Specialist team. A senior agent will reach out to you soon for further assistance.
