Cameras will not work if wifi disrupted

Simplisafe is good with one fatal flaw. Your outdoor cameras will not work if the wifi goes down and the base station does not reconnect when wifi comes back on. Someone must be in home to do physical reboot so if you are away at length your system cameras are worthless. They know about this and simple solution to be able to hardwire base station to wifi router is not something they care about. Unlike Ring which allows hard wire connection to wifi router. Its too bad they don’t fix this.

Hi @lamovitz,

Yes, our cameras do require a Wi-Fi connection in order to function; unfortunately they will not be able to work when Wi-Fi is down. But regarding your Base Station, you should not need to reset it to reestablish its Wi-Fi connection, it should reconnect on its own.

Have you tried setting up a Guest Wi-Fi network that only your Base Station and other SimpliSafe devices are connected to? This can help in case this issue is due to a router setting that is affecting the connection.

wifi connection has not been an issue except last summer when in Colorado and for some reason the wifi went out and the base station did not reconnect so we lost our security system for the rest of the summer as could not get home to reset base station and your support said there was no way to reset it remotely.  When away the only thing connected to wifi is the simplisafe system so a guest wi fi makes no sense.  Not sure why the reluctance by simplisafe to have the ability to hard wire connect base station to internet router so this is not an issue.  Ring has this ability.  A security system for when gone for lengthy times should be able to be reset remotely or hard wired otherwise the security system is worthless.

Weloose power quite a bit and our base station always connects back to wifi and yes anything that runs on wifi goes down if it goes out and that's every brand of wifi cameras but all mine connects right back up in no time so must be something with your router or provider doing that. Plus the base station has a built-in cell chip inside so the base station will still connect to the monitoring company but if your cameras are not connected back then of course they will not work so seems to be a router or internet provider issue.

thanks but makes no sense to be a router or provider issue as we have had internet go out before and everything reconnects including simplisafe but this time while we were gone it did not reconnect making the system worthless. The cell service issue does nothing to fix the issue per simplisafe tech as that will not work the cameras. A hard wire from base to router is an easy fix it only takes a plug in the base station like ring has. If this happens when gone for a lengthy time it makes the service worthless
